Hi @Hazelaraujo,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

When your printer displays a "printer failure" message and becomes unresponsive, it indicates a serious issue that might require troubleshooting or professional assistance. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you resolve this issue:

1. Restart the Printer

Turn Off the Printer:

  • Press the power button to turn off the printer. If the printer does not respond, you might need to unplug it from the power source.

Unplug and Wait:

  • Unplug the printer from the power source and wait for at least 30 seconds to 1 minute. This allows the internal components to reset.

Plug In and Power On:

  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on. Check if the error message is still displayed.

2. Check for Physical Issues

Inspect for Paper Jams:

  • Open the printer’s access panels and check for any paper jams or obstructions. Remove any stuck paper carefully.

Check for Toner or Ink Cartridges:

  • Ensure that toner or ink cartridges are properly installed and not empty. Remove and reinstall cartridges if needed.

Look for Foreign Objects:

  • Check for any foreign objects inside the printer that might be causing issues.

3. Reset Printer to Factory Settings

Access the Reset Option:

  • On the printer’s control panel, navigate to the settings or setup menu. Look for an option to perform a factory reset. This may be listed under "Maintenance," "Setup," or "Tools."

Perform the Reset:

  • Follow the on-screen instructions to reset the printer to its factory settings. Be aware that this will erase any custom settings.

4. Update Printer Firmware

Check for Firmware Updates:

  • Visit the HP Support website and search for firmware updates for your printer model.

Download and Install Updates:

  • Download and install any available firmware updates to ensure your printer has the latest software.

5. Run Printer Diagnostics

Use Diagnostic Tools:

  • Some printers have built-in diagnostic tools that can help identify issues. Access these tools from the printer’s control panel or through the printer’s software on your computer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
