That printer does not support XP nor does HP Smart.

It is possible to send a PDF file directly to a PDF printer. XP does not support "print to PDF" so you must find a XP app that can print to pdf.

To send a file to a PDF printer on Windows XP, you can use a third-party PDF printer application like Win2PDF, or doPDF. Alternatively, you can utilize a free PDF printer tool like PDFCreator or CutePDF. [1, 2, 3, 4]

Here's how you can do it:
  1. Install a PDF printer: Download and install a PDF printer application like Win2PDF or doPDF. [1, 1, 4, 4]
  2. Open the file: Open the document you want to convert to PDF in its respective application (e.g., Word for a .doc file). [5, 5]
  3. Print the document: Go to File > Print (or use the Ctrl+P shortcut). [3, 3, 5, 5]
  4. Select the PDF printer: Choose the newly installed PDF printer from the list of available printers. [1, 1, 5, 5]
  5. Customize settings (optional): Click on "Properties" or "Preferences" to adjust settings like paper size, resolution, or output folder. [5, 5]
  6. Print to PDF: Click "Print" to initiate the conversion. The PDF printer will then create the PDF file based on your settings and the selected file will be converted to a PDF. [1, 1, 5, 5, 6, 7]
Example using Adobe PDF printer (if installed): [5, 5, 8]
  1. Open the file in an authoring application (like Word).
  2. Go to File > Print.
  3. Select "Adobe PDF" from the printer list.
  4. Click "Properties" or "Preferences" to customize settings.
  5. Click "Print" to create the PDF.
By following these steps, you can easily send any file to a PDF printer and create a PDF document on your Windows XP system. [1, 5]
