This is my first time having to change the ink. Jiggling didn't help me. I cannot get at the carriage to change the ink. Keep getting the message that the ink needs to be replaced. I click on the Replace button on the screen, but nothing happens.

Can you reach your finger to the right and push the closest cartridge in  (towards the back of the printer) to release it? Then you should get a different error message because the cartridge is not inserted. If you can do that, replace all 3 of the color cartridges before closing the door. HP should fix this!

when you reach in and push the closest cartridge towards the back of the printer does that then automatically move all the cartridges to the left so you can then change all the cartridges ?

I tried jiggling the carriage but that didn't work. Support is sending me a new printer, it was still under warranty.

but it you can reach the left-most cartridge and press it even if the carriage is not centered, the cartridge will pop out and the printer will detect a different situation (that there is a problem with a cartridge) and the suggestion is that this may override it's dumb stuck carriage behaviour, allow the carriage to move, and allow you to reseat that cartridge and replace the others.

When the closest cartridge is not inserted all the way, close the door and you should get a different error message. Then open the door and the cartridges should slide to the middle. Replace all 3 color cartridges before closing the door. Hope that works!

I *may* have stumbled across a fix for this issue...

My HP OfficeJetPro 9019 All-In-One printer said the Cyan cartridge had to be replaced, so I did that and closed the door. As others have reported, the touchscreen now said another cartridge (Yellow) had to be replaced, but I could not access that cartridge or any others either by tapping anything on the screen or by opening the door, as the carriage would not move to the center. I tried the suggestion of reaching a finger in front of the carriage and pushing on the leftmost ink cartridge to pop it out, then closed the door, which triggered the new error message and then allowed me to replace all of the remaining ink cartridges — but then the touch screen remained stuck on the "Thank You..." message and would not respond or change when I tapped the OK button OR turned the printer power button off and back on OR when I unplugged the power cord from the rear of the printer.

SO FINALLY, while poking around in the HP Smart app on my Mac, I tried selecting the various printer status and supply status options — and I'm sorry to say that I do not recall which one did this, but it showed me the same "Thank You..." message re: genuine HP ink cartridges, at the bottom of which I saw there was an "OK" button, so I clicked it and the "Thank You..." message went away in the HP Smart app, replaced by a message saying the printer was ready to print. Immediately, I ran over to the printer itself to check the touchscreen, and sure enough, the "Thank You..." message was gone: The touchscreen also now displayed the usual "home" screen of commands and options. I regret that I did not pay more attention to precisely which status option in the HP Smart app enabled me to dismiss the "Thank You..." text, but I hope that trying this strategy may help others facing the same frustrating problem.

Thank you - that worked for me on my Windows PC

 

I had to reach in an pop out an ink cartridge to get the carriage to move (as you described). I then got the frozen thank you message on the printer screen.

 

I went into the Printer Settings section of HP Smart on the PC and selected Printer Status from the Status section. The same thank you message was there. When I clicked OK the message disappeared from the PC window and also disappeared from the printer screen
