I'm having multiple issues.

1) When sending a print job to the print it starts, pulls a sheet of paper in an inch or two, then stops. The screen shows Printing with the spinning HP logo and is stuck here indefinitely. If I push the cancel putting the screen gets stuck on Canceling with the spinning HP logo. The only way out is to unplug the printer.

2) I am unable to Enable Web Services. I have tried from both the printer touchscreen as well as the embedded web page of settings. In both cases when clicking enable I get Connecting and it remains there indefinitely. I have search and tried all of the troubleshooting I can find. ip6 is disabled. I have tried DNS settings. Restarting my network and all network devices are up to date. All suggestions for troubleshooting web services have failed to remedy the issue.

3) I downloaded Hp Firmware Update Utility  LJM176_M177_Series_FW_Update_20201013.dmg to attempt to update the printer firmware. When I open this my Mac (Mac OS 12.0.1) says it is not safe to open. I allow it to open anyway through Settings->Security and Privacy. Then the message "HP Firmware Update Utility quit unexpectedly." I have attempted "First Aid" on this dmg file via Disk Utility and this did not allow the program to open either.

Printer firmware version is 20140514 so I suspect I am in need of an update but am unable to find any method of accomplishing this. Here's hoping there is another method to get the firmware updated.

@oBoyleJJ, Welcome to the HP Support Community! I’m here to help.

I see that you are experiencing multiple issues with the printer. Let us perform an NVRAM reset to resolve this issue.

  • The reset instructions are specific for your printer and performing those steps on a different printer may corrupt the device.
  • I've sent you a private message with reset instructions, follow the reset instruction to perform a full reset and re-initialize the printer.
  • In order to access your private messages, click the private message icon on the upper right corner of your HP community profile, next to your profile Name or simply click on this link: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/notes/privatenotespage

Hope this helps! Let me know how it goes.

Thanks for the attempt Kumar.

The message suggested to try an NVRAM reset which I had tried already and my printer did not respond and did not reset.

In the case someone else finds this and has a similar problem:

I ended up having to borrow a windows PC from a family member to update the firmware. I'm all Apple and HP does not appear to have a functioning firmware updater for the current Mac OS version. When going to my printers Downloads page on a Mac it does not offer a Firmware + sign. When doing so on a Windows PC it does. The windows version was able to update the software via the USB cable. Not having a functioning installer for Mac OS is an awfully poor showing for HP and hopefully this get remedied soon.

Once the firmware was updated I could then enable Web Services.

However, my printing issue remains. The behavior of pulling a sheet of paper in a couple inches and stopping continues but with the new firmware I now get a 50.2 Error Message about the Fuser. It appears I need to replace the fuser and the old 2014xx firmware must have not had this error code or couldn't recognize the issue for some reason.

I'm off to order parts now.

Thanks Kumar. I'm going to give it a go on my own. Aside from yourself I've been exceptionally disappointed in my support options with HP.
