Would like to print legal size, but it's not an option. I can run legal-size through the printer just fine, but it quits printing at 11". Is there a driver patch somewhere that I can use to convince my printer to keep printing to 14"?

Hi,

Thanks for using the HP Support Community.

When printing, did you select "legal" size paper on the printer driver properties?

What application or software was used to print the Legal documents?

Have you tried using the HP FULL software?

The problem is that the printer dialogue box through Word and Adobe does not give the option for 8.5 x 14 printing. Word will at least give me the option for 8.5 x 12, but not 8.5 x 14.

Also, the paper tray won't hold a 14" long piece of paper so I have to remove the top of the paper tray so the paper can lay out past the end of the paper tray. It registers that the paper tray is closed and will feed the 14" paper through with no problems, but it quits printing at 12". I'd like to print the extra 2 inches without purchasing a new printer or finding another location to print. I redownloaded the software, but it still does not include 8.5 x 14 as an option.

Other suggestions?

Clarify printer limitations

For those reading this thread

According to the Specifications, this printer hardware does not support legal size paper.

Largest (custom) paper supported is 8.5 X 12.2 inches.

There is not a driver option to override the the limitations in the hardware.

Suggestion

If the document can be printed on regular paper (for your purpose),

Consider Exporting the document to PDF and printing "Shrink to fit" (wording varies by app / software used)

I resorted to doing this as I had to have a print out of what I created. I'd *really* like to just print 8.5 x 14, but I can't convince my printer to print past the 12" mark. I had no idea that I would ever use a "legal" sized piece of paper for anything other than doodling, but here I am. I was hoping someone had a quick little "here, just download this file and it will teach your printer how to print on 14" paper". No such luck so far.

As I'm pretty sure I have stated more than once, I UDERSTAND that my printer does not "want" to print 8.5 x 14. I GET THAT I DIDN'T BUY A PRINTER WITH THAT SPECIFICATION. What I am asking is if there is a link or some programming somewhere that I can download to let my printer understand that I want to print 8.5 x 14. The paper runs through the printer just fine, it just won't print past about 12 inches. To me it doesn't *seem* to be such a big deal since other printers have drivers that understand what to do with an 8.5 x 14. Please don't tell me to "select legal size" again. It isn't an option. I can change the parameters of the paper size to be 8.5 x 12, but that isn't helpful, either. It needs to be 8.5 x 14. I'm pretty sure it isn't a Word issue since Word only shows what the printer capabilities are. I *need* to print on 8.5 x 14. Is there a patch or some magic somewhere that will help my printer ignore the fact that it "cant" print 8.5 x 14?

I get around the problem by creating 8x14 maps on my PC. The document is then saved as a PDF either through the application I'm using or I run it through my printer to create a PDF. I make sure to save the file to a storage destination I can reach through my phone or tablet. I usually use Adobe to open the PDF, just to double check. Then I print from my phone or tablet using 8x14 settings.
