I can't print properly from a PDF file. The image is always cutoff at the side and bottom.

Welcome to the HP Community --

So many printers --

So many ways to print PDF files:

  • Print from a browser
  • Use an application to print a saved PDF file
  • Use software designed to print PDF documents

Browser prints can generally be adjusted in Print > Settings

In particular, some browsers do not do well with the default margins.

Check and adjust.

Applications used to print a saved PDF file generally follow the rules of the application.

There are limited options to manage the PDF data itself -- usually what you see is what you print.

Cropping is an option -- resizing the margins and / or the content is generally not an option.

Software dedicated to printing and managing PDF files is generally more robust than printing from an app or from a browser.  Example PDF software:  Adobe Reader DC

When documents are Exported from an original Word or Word-like editor to PDF format, the characteristics of the original document are exported when the format is changed to PDF.

Generally included during Export from original document to PDF format file:

  • Margins,
  • Images (if set in Word > Options > Advanced to be included as opposed to "place holders")
  • Tables, Comments, Headers and Footers

If -

After editing the original document to correct the size and placement structure of any inserted images,

and

The document is Exported to PDF format and Saved,

If using Adobe Reader DC ,

If paper size is set to the proper paper and Page Size & Handling > Size = "Fit"

If other menu options / Properties are correct,

and

The PDF document (still) does not print properly,

then

in Advanced > "Print as Image"

PDF - Print as Image

Reinstall / Update your PDF Reader (Adobe Reader DC /Optional Foxit Reader)

  • HINT: Watch out for and UNCHECK unwanted extra software
  • Adobe Reader DC software should be installed even if you do not open / view / print PDF files directly from the software.

If the file will not print due to unusual content (odd fonts, color schemes, Tables, other oddities), print the file as an Image. Image printing does not require the printer software to translate file content.

  • Export and Save the document to your computer in PDF format.
  • Open the offending document in Adobe Reader DC
  • Click Print icon > Set other options on the menu > Click Advanced button
  • Set the printer select the colors (Optional)
  • Select Print the PDF file as an image
