Problem connecting macbook air M1 sonoma 14.2.1 to HP LaserJet Pro MFP M26nw. I tried downloading driver for this printer from this link -> https://support.hp.com/cz-cs/drivers/hp-laserjet-pro-mfp-m25-m27-series/model/9365415
I connected to the same internet connection as the printer. I started the installation of the driver (HP Easy Start), chose the correct printer and hit continue.
After that installation seems to be starting, searching for software... but never finishes successfully, displaying message:
"Cannot obtain software information. Check your network connection, and then try again." This happens although connection on mac is solid and printer is connected via internet cable RJ45. I tried already multiple times, same result.

Hi @Bizky ,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If you're encountering issues connecting your MacBook Air M1 to the HP LaserJet Pro MFP M26nw and the installation process is not completing successfully, you can try the following steps to troubleshoot the problem:
Check Printer Connectivity:
- Ensure that your HP LaserJet Pro MFP M26nw is properly connected to the same network as your MacBook Air. You mentioned using an internet cable (RJ45), make sure the cable is securely plugged in.
Verify Network Connection:
- Double-check your MacBook Air's network connection. Ensure that you have a stable internet connection and that your MacBook is connected to the same network as the printer.
Restart Devices:
- Restart both your MacBook Air and the HP LaserJet Pro printer. Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve connectivity issues.
Use HP Smart App:
- Instead of HP Easy Start, try using the HP Smart app, which is available on the App Store. This app can help you set up and manage your HP printer. Download and install the app, and see if it recognizes and connects to your printer.
Update macOS:
- Make sure your MacBook Air is running the latest version of macOS. Updates can include improvements and fixes for printer compatibility. Go to "System Preferences" > "Software Update" and check for any available updates.
Manually Install Drivers:
- If the automated process fails, try manually installing the printer drivers:
- Download the latest drivers from the official HP website (the link you provided).
- Open "System Preferences" on your MacBook.
- Go to "Printers & Scanners" and click the '+' button to add a printer.
- Select your HP printer from the list or choose "Add Printer or Scanner."
- Manually select the driver file you downloaded.
Firewall and Security Software:
- Check if any firewall or security software on your MacBook is blocking the printer installation. Temporarily disable such software and attempt the installation again.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
