Every time I try and print from the HP Smart app on my iPad the print button is faded as if it can’t find the printer. I have to delete the app and re-install it to be able to print.

HP used to answer Facebook messages very quickly but now they just get ignored.

I’m fed up with paying for instant ink each month when this app just won’t work for me, and no technical support.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Welcome to HP Forums,

This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips,

Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂

As I understand there's an issue with printing on HP Smart App via iPad,

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

Have you ensured your printer is compatible with HP Smart App?

Did you disable the IPv6 on the printer to make a difference?

While you respond to that, here's what you need to do:

Update iOS to the most recent version.

  1. From your mobile device, touch the Settings app, and then touch General.

  2. Touch Software Update.

Your device automatically searches for the latest iOS update.

  3. If an update is available, touch Download and Install, and then follow the on-screen instructions to install the update.

       NOTE:

For more information about iOS updates, go to Update the iOS on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch (in English).

If no update is available, continue to the next step.

After the software update is complete, try to print. If the issue persists, continue to the next step.

Step 3: Restart the printer

Restarting the printer might temporarily resolve the issue so that you can quickly finish any important print jobs.

  1. Turn the printer off, and then wait 5 seconds.

  2. Turn the printer on, and then wait until the printer is ready to print.

  3. If needed, print any important print jobs.

Step 4: Disable IPv6 on the printer

If the printer is using the version 6 Internet Protocol (IPv6), set it to use IPv4 to reduce the chance of connection errors.

Thanks for your reply.

I couldn’t get your link to work but have found the setting for turning off IPv6.

I have turned it off and the problem seems to have been resolved. I will test it over the next few day.

many thanks.

I now have another problem since turning IPv6 off, on my printer.

The ipad now prints everytime but when I try and print from my PC (windows 10) it doesnt print. I have to turn IPv6 back on which solves the problem, but then the ipad wont print.
