Hallo! I bought a printer HP LaserJet MFP M140w in November 2023. At first there were no problems. I liked the printer. After the toner ran out, I bought a new toner in the store and installed it in the printer. However, now the printer does not print. The computer does not see it. In my personal account in HP Smart it says that the printer setup is not finished. Tell me how to finish the printer setup. What needs to be done for this? Has anyone encountered this? Thanks in advance!

Hi @LaserJetMFPM140,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It seems that your HP LaserJet MFP M140w printer is not being recognized after you replaced the toner, and HP Smart indicates that the setup is incomplete. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the issue.
Steps to Complete the Printer Setup:
Ensure Correct Toner Installation:
- Double-check that the new toner is correctly installed. Remove it and reinsert it, ensuring it clicks securely into place.
Restart the Printer and Computer:
- Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for 30 seconds, and plug it back in. Then restart your computer.
Re-run HP Smart Setup:
- Open the HP Smart app on your computer or mobile device.
- If it shows that the printer setup is incomplete, click on the prompt and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup.
Remove and Re-add the Printer in HP Smart:
- Go to HP Smart, remove the printer from your account, and then click on Add a Printer to reconnect it.
- Make sure that the printer and your device are on the same Wi-Fi network.
Check Printer Connectivity:
- Ensure that the printer is properly connected to the Wi-Fi or directly via USB. If it’s a wireless setup, check that the printer is still connected to your Wi-Fi network. You may need to go through the network setup process again.
Check for Firmware or Driver Updates:
- Visit the HP support website and search for your printer model to check for any firmware or driver updates that might resolve connection issues.
Reset the Printer:
- If the setup still fails, try performing a factory reset on your printer:
- Turn off the printer.
- Hold the Wireless button and the Cancel button together, then turn on the printer while holding these buttons for 20 seconds.
- The printer should reset, and you can attempt the setup again.
Toner Cartridge Issue:
- If the printer continues to have issues after setup, there could be an issue with the toner cartridge. Ensure that the toner is an HP genuine cartridge compatible with your printer model.
Has anyone in your situation encountered this? Yes, printer connectivity issues after changing toner or during incomplete setups are not uncommon.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
