HP 7410 All-In-One,
macOS 10.15 Catalina

Hello.
Forgive me for going rogue, supplying serial number info, and my tone in this message. I’m disappointed and frustrated with HP, a company which used to be great.

Preface: How my issues started.

My neighbors gave to me an HP 7410 All-In-One printer/scanner/fax in October 2020. They were putting the printer in the trash. They told me, and I quote, “We could never get the dam thing to work.”

I was eventually able to get the printer to work, and “work*” on my Xfinity home network. What a shock (and shame on HP)  to discover 35 pages had printed from this HP 7410 All-In-One printer as of October 2020.

Questions I am looking for HP to answer:

  • Can I use the app HP Smart with the HP 7410 All-In-One printer and 100% of the app features and functionality? Or 75%? 50%? 25%? And if the answer is No, or any of the lesser percentages, then why isn’t the app coded to accommodate for my/these devices? They could not display features or code to display: This feature is not available for your printer model.
  • Why does HP Support tell me serial number [personal information removed]is invalid? It IS the serial number.
  • Why aren’t the HP Support drop downs coded for Apple MAC OS Big Sur? Former OS “Catalina” was my only choice option to pick.

Thank you...John

Note: Answers containing the following similar phrases are NOT valid answers, they are excuses:

- The printer is no longer supported by HP so...

- HP cannot...

- Due to Covid...

The first two phrases are invalid because HP programmers can and should create programs which account for the company walking away from its own products after x number of days, weeks or years.

It is not the fault of the current owner to have a working device with valid product information.

The last phrase is there because it is the American excuse du jour, and used too frequently. HP Leaders should have pivoted by now.

* The above term “work”, as in “...work on my Xfinity network...” is correct and now a security issue for me. I had to dumb down my XFinity Internet security to get this printer to work. The printer has had no security updates in years so it will not work with better network security.

Not allowed to put my name so why have a signature box.

Hi,

The printer is not supported by HP Smart, only later printer are supported.

Please check the Resolution section in the TKB information I replied as well, there you should be able to find and install the drivers to use your printer with Big Sur:

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printers-Knowledge-Base/Having-problems-installing-older-HP-Printers-o...

For the security matter, the printer is simply too old and supports older standards as WPA1, to use it with your router wirelessly, you must set your router accordingly or connect it with an Ethernet cable, the printer does not support WPA2 wireless security.
