True - these DeskJet printers lack a printer control panel.
Quiet Mode can be switched on using HP Smart or the Embedded Web Server (EWS).
Example - EWS
Open your favorite browser > type / enter Printer IP address into URL / Address bar
Tab Settings > Preferences > Quiet Mode
