Hi,

The drivers are available from Apple Software Update indeed, as described below:

https://support.hp.com/lt-en/document/c04510394

As the document suggests, the drivers can be added via Software Update by adding it within Devices and Printers, as well these can be downloaded and installed manually from Apple by clicking the Download link on below link:

Thank you, however, my model is NOT available from apple software update; that's the problem. I spoke with some HP people in India (OY), who may have reintalled the driver, but they now need a $100. iTunes card in order to take my payment; something having to do with the mac security....honestly, I don't understand. But they spent gobs of time trying to figure out the problem, but  printing is STILL blurry; evidently, the drivers have to be activated or something. I don;t trust any of these people.

Hi,

the driver is included in that package, that is clearly listed by Apple:

HP Officejet 4500 G510n-z3.3.2PS

https://support.apple.com/en-il/HT201465

Regardless, to get a better understanding be sure to print a Self-Test Report and evaluate the results:

https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-officejet-4500-all-in-one-printer-series-g510/3919445/model/...

Can you see clear results or may you see any similar print quality issue on this report as well?

I just do not see what you are seeing......my printer is not suppoerted by air print and it the driver is not available online.

I did all the self-prints and other diagnostics, etc.

For the $100 HP wants to install a new driver, I can buy a new all in one printer, which is what I'll likely do.

Thanks for your help.

Please download and install the following package form Apple, then follow the steps (all taken from the document included in my previous post:

http://support.apple.com/downloads/DL1888/en_US/HewlettPackardPrinterDrivers5.1.dmg

Installing the driver in macOS or OS X 10.7 and later

To install the HP driver through Apple Software Update, create a new print queue on the Mac.
note:
Where is the download button? Your HP drivers automatically download and install through Apple Software Update, but if you want to manually download drivers, go to HP Printer Drivers for macOS and OS X Mavericks and later (in English) or HP Printer Drivers for OS X Mountain Lion and OS X Lion (in English) on the Apple support site.

  1. Click the Apple menu, then click System Preferences.
  2. Depending on your operating system version, click Print & Fax, Print & Scan, or Printers & Scanners.
Example of the Printers & Scanners window
  3. Check if the name of your printer displays in the Printers list. Do one of the following steps, depending on if the printer is listed or not.
    • If your printer is listed, remove and re-add the printer to confirm communication and to make sure the correct driver is used. Click the name of your printer, then click the minus sign to delete the printer. Once the printer is removed, click the plus sign , click Add Printer or Scanner, click the name of your printer, then continue to the next step.
    • If your printer is not listed, click the plus sign, click Add Printer or Scanner, click the name of your printer, then continue to the next step.
    • If your printer is not listed in the Add Printer or Scanner window, make sure the printer is connected to the Mac with a USB cable, or that it is on the same wired or wireless network as your Mac. See the Frequently asked questions in this document to resolve connection issues, try to add the printer again, then continue to the next step.
  4. Click the Use or Print Using menu, then select the name of your printer.
    note:
Selecting a Generic driver option from the Use menu can result in limited printer functionality.
Select the name of your printer in the Use menu
  5. Click Add to add the printer to the list.
  6. Close the System Preferences window.
  7. Try to print, scan, or fax, depending on your printer functionality.
  • If you can print, scan, or fax, you installed the driver and can now use your printer.
