HP Officejet Pro 276dw
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

I have an HP Officejet Pro 276dw printer that is connected via ethernet to my network. I can access the EWS website, but I can not change any settings because they are locked. I can not log in with the admin user. I tried:

Username: admin

Password: admin or empty

I also tried the following suggestions:

🔧Method 1: Use the Printer Control Panel (Touchscreen Models)

Go to the Home screen on the printer.
Tap the Setup or Settings icon (gear symbol).
Navigate to Printer Maintenance or Tools.
Select Restore or Restore Defaults.
Choose Restore Factory Defaults and confirm.

This will reset all settings, including the admin password and Wi-Fi configuration

-> No effect. All settings are still locked.

🔧Method 2: Use the HP Smart App or Embedded Web Server (EWS)

Open the HP Smart app on your computer or phone.
Go to Advanced Settings to open the Embedded Web Server.
Navigate to Settings > Restore Defaults.
If prompted for a password, try:
Username: admin
Password: admin or the PIN found on a sticker inside the printer (usually near the cartridges).
-> No effect. All settings are still locked. No PIN sticker found inside or outside the printer.

🔧Method 3: Printer reset using the Engineering Menu

Enter the Engineering Menu by pressing 1 x Home, 1 x Back, 2 x Home

Choose Service Menu

Choose Resets Menu

Choose Partial Reset or Semi-full Reset or OOBE reset

-> No effect. I tried all three reset options. But the settings in EWS are still locked.

How can I reset my printer and access all the setting in the EWS?

Hi @engessef

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand that you're facing issues with accessing the admin settings through the Embedded Web Server (EWS) on your HP Officejet Pro 276dw printer.

Generally, if you are unable to log in to the EWS as an administrator, it might be necessary to reset the admin password.

Unfortunately, specific instructions for the Officejet Pro 276dw model are not available in the provided content, but I can provide some general guidance based on other HP models.

General Steps to Reset the Admin Password Using the EWS

Access the EWS: Ensure that your printer is powered on and connected to the network via Ethernet. Open a web browser on your computer and type the printer's IP address to access the EWS.

Locate Admin Password:

  • Inside the Printer: In some HP models, a factory-set admin password is provided on a label inside the cartridge access door. Check if this is applicable for your model.

Attempt Password Reset:

  • In certain models, you might need to perform a factory reset to regain admin access.
  • This usually involves accessing "Settings" from the EWS, and navigating to options such as "Restore Factory Defaults" or "Administrator Settings."

Additional Considerations

  • Firmware Updates: Ensure that your printer has the latest firmware installed, as updates can fix bugs and security issues that may be affecting admin access.
  • Networking Issues: Double-check that your printer is properly connected to the network and is not suffering from network connectivity issues.

Let me know how far you get with these steps. If you’d like help navigating the support portal or verifying your firmware version, I’m here to assist. You're clearly doing everything right—let’s get you full access again.

Hi @Hawks_Eye

Thank you for your response. I tried your suggestions, but I could not get access to the admin settings. It is still locked.

Locate Admin Password:

  • Inside the Printer: In some HP models, a factory-set admin password is provided on a label inside the cartridge access door. Check if this is applicable for your model.

Unfortunalty there is no lable inside cartridge access door. I also looked at the backside, but there is only the serial number printed on the big lable.

Attempt Password Reset:

  • In certain models, you might need to perform a factory reset to regain admin access.
  • This usually involves accessing "Settings" from the EWS, and navigating to options such as "Restore Factory Defaults" or "Administrator Settings."

I can not access any relevant settings form the EWS. I only get the message "You must log in before you can view this page."

Firmware Updates: I updated to the latest available firmware version "OJP276DW_2030D" via USB connection.

Networking Issues: I can connect to the printer via the network and the assigned IP adress. Printing does also work via the network.

Do you have any other suggestions for me? Thank you for your help.
