Dear HP,
The OS is MAC Sonoma 14.2.1. and MAC Ventura 13.6.3 Printer = HP7740 bought in december 2023. Up to now (14 Jan 2024) I was not able to get the scan application working. Before this printer, I owned a simular HP7740 on which the scan functionality from the dashboard worked perfectly. I was able to choose the computer to which I wanted to scan the documents to. This does not work anymore> When I want to choose on the printer dashboard to which the computer I want to scan to I get a message stating the printer software must be installed on te computer. I have newly installed : 1) HP Smart, 2) HP Easy start, 3) HP Easy Scan 4) HP Utility.
Device is connected to LAN network and can be detected by the computers I have in use. I can also approach the device Embedded web Server. functionality works fine using microsoft applications but printing form Adobe acrobat does not work,
using HP Smart I am able to scan but is not convenient. Takes to much time and it is not easy to scan double sided. HP Easy Scan does not produce a scan, it stay stuck in finding a connection with the 7740 device. When I request for software update for Easy Scan I get a message this app is currently not available in your country or region.
Every time I run HP Easy start it shows that Easy scan is not installed (?) while it is actually installed on the MAC. When I run the installation in HP Easy start Easy Scan is installed (again) I assume it overwrites the original installation but to make sure there is no interference with existing installation I also ran an installation after having the existing Easy Scan installation removed.
Remaining essential software appears to be installed, version 5.17.5.2. Note that auto software update for the printer is enabled.
After installation of Easy scan I can choose between air printer software and HP software to use. Tried both. Both give the same result: HP Easy access provides a possibility for running test pages for print and scan after installation of Easy scan. Print test results in a test printout, works fine. Scan test page does not provide an output, although the status information on the test says 'scanning'. Nothing happens.
As the Easy scan software is not available in the app store, see earlier remark, I can not verify if it is the latest version.
In the privacy & security settings of the MAC's I use (I have serval active in the network) The HP software is set for full access.
Scanning using Adobe Acrobat Pro Version 23.6.20320.0 is not working either although the printer is recognized by the Acrobat software.
I did find this tread: How do I get 'Scan to Computer' to work on my HP7740 to my M... - HP Support Community - 8877074. The solution appeared to be a software downgrade for the printer but the link thas was provided to download software by a community member, not HP, was not available anymore. Moreover I find it hard to believe that this would be the ultimate solution.
I have contacted the HP helpdesk twice and was on the line with them for a long time on both occasions, also with screen sharing to see what is going on. The last helpdesk contact it was told to me that this problem is reported more often and HP currently does not have a solution. I was told that it is not known If and when a solution will be provided.
again from this tread, same as above, it looks like HP intentionally stopped certain functionality on the HP 7740 printer in particular the scan to computer function. How do I get 'Scan to Computer' to work on my HP7740 to my M... - HP Support Community - 8877074
Can anyone at HP please let me know:
1) if HP intentionally 'killed' the scan to computer function from the printer dash board, yes or no and, if no;
2) can HP tell me when this issue will be solved or what the solution is?
If the answer is on the first q is 'no' or if HP has no intention of resolving this issue shortly I would like to return the device to the shop. Because the 30 days return period I have at the store I bought the 7740 device I need a confirmation / clarity from HP on the matter.
