The scanner application for my printer stopped working about 4 mo ago. I was using Windows 7 and had since then uninstalled the whole printer driver and removed the printer and re-downloaded the full feature driver. I tried to install the driver mulitple times but failed each time. I was able to reconnect the printer, but was never able to download a scanner driver and application successfully.
Every time I tried to install the driver the message below shown to me.

Hey @babantoad,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that you are having some issues with installing the drivers for your Laserjet M1536dnf Printer on your Windows 7 PC. I can help you with that.
To install the software:
- Click on start, in the search bar type in "cmd" no quotes, and open the Command Prompt.
- In this window type in "msiconfig /unregister" (no quotes) and press Enter.
- Type in "msiconfig /regserver" (no quotes) and press Enter.
- Click on start, in the search bar type in "msconfig" (no quotes) and press Enter.
- Click on the Services tab.
- Click on Hide All Microsoft Services.
- Click on Disable All.
- Click on the Start Up tab.
- Click on Disable All.
- Click on Ok and restart your PC.
At this point you should be able to run the installer. If you are still unable to run the installer then there is an issue with your operating system. Your next options would be:
- Run the Microsoft Fix It.
- Contact whoever provided you with the PC.
- Contact Microsoft directly.
