HP ENVY 6020 All-in-One Printer

I keep getting the message “scanner is busy”, and my printer, an Envy 6020 doesn't recognise my PIN as printed on the body of the printer, so I can’t update or change any settings.  Help please.

Hi @StewartW

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand how frustrating this must be, especially since your HP ENVY 6020 is preventing you from updating settings due to the PIN recognition issue

Let’s go through some troubleshooting steps to resolve both problems.

1. Restart the Printer & Network

  • Power off your printer, router, and computer.
  • Wait 2-3 minutes, then turn on the router first.
  • Once the router is fully online, turn on the printer and computer.

2. Reset the Printer

  • On the printer’s control panel, press and hold the Wi-Fi button and Cancel button for 5 seconds.
  • This will reset the network settings and may resolve the scanner busy issue.

3. Check HP Smart App for PIN Recognition

  • Open the HP Smart app on your computer or mobile device.
  • Go to Printer SettingsSecurity.
  • If the PIN is not recognized, try entering 12345678 (default HP PIN for some models).

4. Update Printer Firmware

  • Visit the HP Support page for your HP ENVY 6020.
  • Download and install the latest firmware update.

5. Check HP Embedded Web Server (EWS)

  • Find your printer’s IP address (via Network Settings).
  • Open a web browser and enter the IP address.
  • Navigate to Security Settings and try updating the PIN.

Let me know how it goes, and I’ll be happy to assist further! I appreciate your patience while we work through this.
