Just bought a smart tank 5103 and it was a bloody nightmare trying to set it up because it network and router are set to 5gH. Had to reset everything to make printer recognize router to 2.4gH but screws up every other device which will need to be reset. Most networks use 5gH these days. At the very least, add the options in an update to recognize a 5gH network. I'm still debating whether to keep this printer or return it simply because of this frustrating issue.

2.4g has a longer reach than 5g and can pass through brick walls

Many HP and other OEM printers have problems with the router when the router has two bands and both bands have the same name (SSID). Log into the modem and rename one of the bands. Alternately, contact your ISP and have them rename a band.

if all other systems use 5g then the printer will have the 2.4 all to itself with no signal interference.

Just to add, the issue is not software, it is the fact that these printers only support B/G/N wireless protocols which are 2.4Ghz and first generation 5Ghz. Compatibility between older 5Ghz chips and the newest routers leaves a lot to be desired.

This is a checklist I often attach to posts like this.

Many HP printers are/were built with older generation 5Ghz chipsets which can prove problematic with current 5Ghz networking equipment. That said, there are a few ways to mitigate the issue.
1. check to see if your printer network settings allow you to turn off the 5Ghz communication. This would be under network settings.
2. Check the settings of your router. Many newer routers allow you to restrict device connections to 2.4Ghz, which will stop the device from trying to communicate on the incompatible 5Ghz band.
3. If your router does not offer restrictions, the other method to limit the printer to only connecting to the 2.4Ghz channel is to configure the 2.4Ghz channel of the router to a unique SSID. (often the default from factory has both 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz using the same SSID). Then only configure the printer to connect to the SSID associated with the 2.4Ghz channel. As the steps are different depending on vendor it is impossible to layout all the steps for every product here. The supplier of your wireless should be able to assist.

Hi,

Apologies for jumping in.

Note that the specific model supports 2.4GHz wireless capabilities only, it does not support any 5GHz capabilities, neither with older or newer standards.

To connect the printer, make sure that 2.4GHz wireless is enabled by your router in order to connect the printer.
