several different Lenova laptops
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

The job prints fine but stays in the queue with the status of "Sent to printer".

recently this has started happening on both a HP555 and HP5520 and different laptops (all W10 64-bit)

also

Job stuck in queue with status of "Printer offline".  It is "online" via a wireless connection. Reboot computer or use Windows trouble shooter to clear / restart the spooler and the job prints.

Both these faults were described in Stuck in queue after printing "Sent to printer" - HP Support Community - 7359037

I have reinstalled drivers, latest firmware on all printers but since it's a problem on multiple laptops and multiple printers then it sounds like a problem with your drivers??

Two printers found for this partial name:

HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 5520 e-All-in-One Printer series

OR

HP Photosmart 5520 e-All-in-One Printer series

Both of these printers show the last release of the Full Feature Software (full driver) was in 2015.

What does that prove?  Nothing for sure - but the printer software / driver is the same as it's been for years.

What's changed?

Windows changes all the time - most frequently the changes take the form of Windows Updates.

It is true that the printer software (like other installed programs) can become corrupted after a Windows Update.

It is also true, that should that happen, the usual fix is to completely uninstall the software and reinstall it.

The network changes - connections change and sometimes the configuration can be lost, corrupted, or otherwise unusable.  In particular, the connection type might benefit from being changed to TCP/IP.  The "Offline" doctor addresses this AND you can always change the connection type manually.

Resource – Choose the right doctor for the job

Open Website

HP Print and Scan Doctor for Windows

Click the orange Download Now option / box

Wait!

If the problem / issue is one of

  • Printer is Offline
  • Cannot print in Color
  • Duplex printing has disappeared

THEN

Select / Answer question “Is print offline?” = YES

Answering Yes selects the “right doctor” version for these issues.

NOTES – The “Offline” doctor

As a result of repairing issues,

Offline / Color check / Duplex check version of the Doctor may replace the printer or add a “(Copy 1)” version of the driver in Devices and Printers.

Open Control Panel > icon view > Devices and Printers

Right-Click on the printer name > Printer Properties > Tab General >

In the top box, Edit the name of the printer (For example, remove “Copy 1”)

Click Apply / OK to save change

NOTE:  The name change may take a bit of time (a few minutes), else Restart the computer and log in.

Verify results.  If necessary, set the newly added / renamed printer as the default.

A secondary “Scan” printer may be added, that is, the “Do not Delete” driver / printer.  As it says, do not delete the entry.

It is used for the scan queue.

Method - Create TCP IP port (InkJet Printer)

Find printer's IP /  IPv4 address

Print a Configuration Page

OR

Tap on the wireless icon on Printer Control / Display Panel

Control Panel > icon view > Devices and Printers

Right-Click on the printer > Left-Click Printer Properties

Select Tab Ports  > Add Port

Select Standard TCP/IP Port > New Port and follow the wizard.
Use / Enter IP address for the printer.

Example - How-to “Create TCP Port” Contributed by greenturtle

Video:  Create & Use TCP IP port
“Note that you can ALWAYS revert back to the original port that the HP software installed by selecting the HP port within the Ports tab (in Printer Properties)”

What else?

Not much else would affect multiple printers and several computers that is related to individual controls in the software.

You could try the Power Reset on the printers.

For example, from category Troubleshooting > Power (Deskjet printer)

Printer Turns Off Unexpectedly or Repeatedly

Step 2

and consider Step 4

Why?  Printers draw a lot of power to start and to start a job - the printer should be connected to a wall outlet, especially when you are experiencing issues.

 +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

What else?

The obvious, I guess:

Restart everything, including your router.

Check the router logs - since multiple systems and printers are affected, the router logs might be able to help.
