Hello,
My printer turns off automatically after just 2 hours after it was last used, or after turning it on if there was no printing, scanning or copying activity.
I tried to change this behavior from the printer's touch-screen control panel, but it only shows power handling options for entering sleep-mode after 5, 10 or 15 minutes and for the Power button to either have the printer enter sleep mode or to turn the printer off.
I also tried to change this behavior using the Auto-Off Settings option on the Embedded Web Server, but this option was grayed out (unavailable).
I need my printer to stay turned on because I am used to send remote print-jobs to my wireless printers at home. With the HP printer, I use the HP ePrint service, which lets me attach the document I need to print to an email sent to the printer's registered email address. Obviously, this method doesn't work if the printer turns off while I am away. I don't mind if the printer goes into snooze/power-saving mode , or even if it turns off after, say, 8 hours or so.
I contacted HP Support roughly a year ago to ask them for help and they agreed to help me out even when my printer's warrany had expired. which I truly appreciated.
They checked for pending firmware updates, helped me uninstall all HP software on my laptop, had me reset the printer to its default factory settings, and then guided me through the printer's setup process and software installation.
After that lengthy and time-consuming process ended, all of the features were successfully tested, but the Auto-Off Settings option was still grayed out at a 2-hour timeout setting with no chance to change it.
I am still stuck with a printer that I cannot print to if I am away from home for more than 2 hours. Of course, when I am home I have to go to the printer anyway to turn it on after 2 hours.
It's worth noting that I've asked for help in many other communities and forums. On this community I found a similar case which fortunately was solved (Auto off - HP Support Community - 8048354). Some answers suggested that my printer shouldn't turn off automatically. It definitely does.
Has anyone in this community had the same problem? Was it solved?
