Question being raised again as the same problem going on for months since support was withdrawn by HP. Numerous people have same issue and the only advice from this site is to get a new printer. It prints fine but every time I try to scan I get the error code OX00829C98. I have to unplug power lead and then plug in again most times this works and I can scan but waking printer from sleep produces same error code. Advice from HP says it is a hardware issue but everything was fine until this problem and if it was a hardware issue why would it scan when power removed and replaced

Welcome (back) to the HP Community.
Product introduced August 2017
It is likely that the Warranty on the unit is likely expired for some time.
HP does not generally accept or open a case for a device that is out of Warranty.
If HP says it is hardware, then it might be hardware.
HP has access to the exact error code messaging - anyone outside of HP does not have this level of access.
Opinions
If you are convinced otherwise,
That is you think the diagnosis from HP is wrong,
Re-Check the connection points, for example, for any anomalies .
What?
Examples
- If you are running a Dual Band network, know that the printer only supports 2.4GHz on its named SSID network.
- Check the router logs for any information the router might have gleaned when the printer connects / disconnects.
- If MacOS includes the option, change the connection type to TCP/IP.
- If you have not done so, in addition to connecting to the named SSID network, assign an IP address to the printer.
Why would restarting help for a brief time?
Scan is very resource intensive AND requires a stable and excellent connection to the network / computer that is submitting the job. The issue might be power, too. Scanning might draw more current for a few seconds when the job starts.
If the connection is poor or the wrong type necessary to secure a strong and stable communications between printer, device, and network,
and / or
If the hardware is failing to draw / utilize the power necessary for the job,
and / or
If the resources needed on the computer fail or hang at a critical moment during the start of the scan,
and / or
There are hidden errors in the printer software or file system,
Then
Reasons aside (is it proved hardware or not): The job will fail.
What to do?
The printer model has been discontinued.
The printer is likely somewhere between three and four years of age.
A possible successor, the Envy Photo 6222 is listed at Walmart for $89 USD. Note that this is not an indication of what you paid for your printer in your region nor is it meant as a reflection of how you feel about your printer. In terms of a straight across comparison, this is an inexpensive, lower-end printer.
It might not be worth, for example, purchasing more ink for a printer that no longer works as expected.
Were it me,
If I was tired of fighting with it,
I'd replace the printer.
