I am trying to connect an HP Color LaserJet MFP M183fw printer but when I put the WPS PIN (which I got from the printer) into my computer settings it says "That didn't work - Try adding your DIRECT-b4-HP M183 LaserJet again, or check with the manufacturer for additional setup instructions."
I've tried this several times with no luck. How do I get this printer to connect?

Hi @MrsDL,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding connecting your HP Color LaserJet MFP M183fw printer using the WPS PIN method!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Try these steps:
Confirm Wi-Fi Network Connection
- Ensure that your printer and computer are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. The WPS PIN method requires a wireless network connection.
Double-Check the WPS PIN Entry
- Make sure you enter the correct WPS PIN exactly as shown. It's usually time-sensitive, so enter it promptly.
Use an Alternative Connection Method
- Try connecting your printer using another method:
- Standard Wireless Setup:
- On the printer's control panel, navigate to the 'Wireless Setup Wizard' in the network settings. Follow on-screen instructions to connect the printer to your Wi-Fi network directly.
- HP Smart App:
- Download and install the HP Smart app on your computer or mobile device. This app can guide you through connecting your printer without needing a WPS PIN.
- Standard Wireless Setup:
Restart Devices
- Restart both your printer and computer to clear any temporary network issues.
Check Router Settings
- Ensure your router's WPS function is enabled in the network settings. You might need to refer to your router’s manual for instructions.
Reset Network Settings on Printer
- Reset the network settings on the printer to defaults and try the setup process again. This can help clear any previous configuration errors.
- You can reset the printer network settings typically through the printer’s menu in the settings section.
I hope this helps.
