Laser Jet Pro MFP M148dw; Error message when trying to print documents received via email or internet. I can print documents originating with my computer (Laptop). Error message says "Printer offline." Yet in HP Smart it shows the printer and model. How do it get it to print?

Hi @DavidMc33,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your HP LaserJet Pro MFP M148dw might be having trouble maintaining a connection when printing from certain sources. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue.
Check Printer Status:
- Ensure the printer is turned on and connected to the same network as your laptop.
- Make sure there are no error messages or warnings on the printer’s control panel.
Verify Network Connection:
- Check if the printer is connected to the network by printing a network configuration page from the printer's menu.
- Confirm that your computer and printer are on the same network.
Restart Devices:
- Restart your printer, router, and computer to refresh their connections.
Update Printer Firmware:
- Ensure your printer’s firmware is up to date. You can check for updates using the HP Smart app or on the HP support website.
Reinstall Printer Drivers:
- Go to the HP support website, download the latest drivers for your model, and reinstall them.
Check Printer Settings in HP Smart:
- Open the HP Smart app, go to "Printers," and make sure your printer is selected as the default.
- Verify that the printer status is shown as "Ready" or "Online."
Check Print Queue:
- Go to your computer’s "Printers & Scanners" settings, select your printer, and check if there are any documents stuck in the print queue. If so, clear the queue and try printing again.
Adjust Printer Settings:
- Sometimes, changing the port settings can help. Go to "Devices and Printers" on your computer, right-click your printer, select "Printer Properties," go to the "Ports" tab, and ensure the correct port is selected.
Network Troubleshooting:
- If you have changed your network settings or router recently, ensure that the printer is still properly connected and has a valid IP address.
Print from a Different Source:
- Try printing from a different application or website to see if the problem persists. This can help determine if the issue is specific to the source you're printing from.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
