After being online with Microsoft support for 3+ hours and coming to the conclusion that my HP Laserjet 4000 will not work with Windows 10, I found this solution two days ago. Use this URL to get to a page that points to 32 and 64 bit drivers for the printer. After downloading the selected item, unzip it to a new folder. The header will identify it as either I386 (32 bit) or AMD64 (64 bit). Once you have the correct version, go to Devices and Printers in the Control Panel and add a new printer. Specify that you have a disk and point to the folder that contains the unzipped files. You may have to try more than one but you should find one that works. It worked for me.
The URL is: http://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=HP%20Laserjet%204000
Good luck.

Hi Paul
It's October 2019 and after banging my head for a few days trying to get a lj4000tn working on a win 10 machine I had to rebuild, I came across this post. Just wanted to let you know this still works.👍
Thanks
John

Hi, Paul.
Thanks very much for your input on this. I did what you suggested AND it worked. Yippeee!
Still, I'm a little bit curious how your "average person" would know....just from LOOKING at the list of drivers....that it's the SIXTH one on the list that is the one to choose.
I don't think there's any reference to 32 bit or 64 bit or Win10 build numbers.....so, what's the difference(s) between them all? (I see THREE of them that look as though they SHOULD work)
Thanks again for your help.

One more question, if I may.....
The driver you proposed for my Windows 10 setup works fine.........for anything but Office 365 documents.
I can print anything I want from my Chrome browser, but as soon as i try to print a Word or Excel document (for example) I get an error message saying simply "Status: Error"
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Michael

This solution worked like a charm! I was initially extracting files with winzip or 7zip which didn't work. After I decompressed the files using 7-Zip. I was able to install and use the printer.
Thank you so much!!
