Wish to use HP Deskjet 1010 with Mac Sequoia

I'm on Mac Sequoia, 15.3.2, which isn't on the dropdown list so I selected what was closest. I wish to use an old HP Deskjet 1010 printer with my Mac. The printer goes on, makes a few noises, but does nothing. I have tried the generic printer driver as well as the HP deskjet printer option found in the Mac settings. Nothing works. The HP Smart app is not useful because it's only about printers that print on a network and the deskjet doesn't have any Internet ability; I have the printer connected my computer via USB-C with a USB adapter. Is there any way to use it with a newish Mac? Thanks.

Try to install with the next steps:

(1) Connect a USB cable between Deskjet printer and Mac computer:,

(2) Install the next driver:

• >> Apple driver for Deskjet printer essentials L5_1901 - MacOS

It worked!! Thanks so much FerRX!! It's definitely necessary to connect the printer to the computer, as you said to do, before installing the software (I tried it the other way first). Thanks again!
