Welcome to the HP support community.
Perform root level uninstallation to remove all the printer related software's.
- In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
- Select your HP printer.
- Select Uninstall.
- In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
- In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
- Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
- Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
- Click on Drivers tab.
- Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click Remove at the bottom.
- Select OK.
- Remove all instances of the same.
- Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.
- Close Devices and Printers.
- Restart the PC again.
Download and install printer full feature driver
Click here to download the driver.
I hope that helps.

Sandytecht20 responded and i got as far as "Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click Remove at the bottom" and when I clicked on "OK" the message cannot delete because it is in use by another program. --I haven't tried to scan anything but HP SMART still opens and and it says "Hp OfficeJet 5200 All-in-One" is "Ready" --when i opened the printui.exe folder i saw -Hp OfficeJet 5200 series PCL-3--this is what i could not delete and was told it was in use. i'm stuck???

This might require remote access to your computer to fix the issue.
I request you to talk to HP support.
They might have multiple options to help you with this.
- Click on this link - https://support.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp?openCLC=true
- Select the country.
- Enter the serial of your device.
- Select the country from the drop-down.
- Click on "Show Options".
- Fill the web-form. A case number and phone number will now populate for you.
I hope that helps.

Hi,
Is the printer connected wired (USB) or wireless?
The reason you cannot remove the printer is because it is still being used in HP Smart.
Open HP Smart
right click on the printer
click on 'forget this printer'

Instead of referring the concerns thru tech support, why not give our customers other solutions?
They are here obviously because they cannot be troubled with contacting HP SUPPORT.
To the author, you can ease up the root uninstallation of the drivers by using this:
Fix problems that block programs from being installed or removed (microsoft.com)
This is called microsoft fix-it. I use this on my calls during REMOTE SESSION to easily uninstall the driver.
just download and run the program, look for your printer driver, select uninstall. the steps should be easy
windows will forcefully close all running applications using the driver and uninstall it.

i did what you said i opened hp smart right clicked --clicked on forget printer --seemed to do it but went back to where opened printui.exe /s and it still blocked removing the listed printer because it was still in use--the printer is wireless

On microsoft fix-it, look for your printer driver. If it does not show, that means you do not need to uninstall it. But if you were able to uninstall the program/driver using MS Fix-it, reboot your PC, go to
HP OfficeJet 5258 All-in-One Printer Software and Driver Downloads | HP® Customer Support
click on BASIC drivers, download and run, and finish the installation.

i'm getting old and don't think i need this flustration --maybe the easiest thing to do would be to buy a new wireless printer--probably not an HP--and load the new software and driver for it---nothing is working
