I ended up manually editing the permissions of the individual dll files to Full Control for Everyone as the script was "access denied". Had to enable the administrator account to do it though, it wouldn't recognise the authority of the computer owner's account even though they were an administrator.

Hi,
May you able to uninstall the HP Basic Device Software using Microsoft's Fix problems that block programs from being installed or removed?

Thank you for this. It helped me "uninstall my printer" finally. But now I can't reinstall it. I keep getting error messages saying printer can't connect over my wifi network. meanwhile, no problem with other devised - like my wife's hp Win10 desktop or any of our IOS devices. Any fhoughts on that. I've tried all the usual HP solutions - print and scan doctor, etc. HP products support very unhelpful.

No, my post with detailed instructions was removed, I guess the forum admins don't want me to tell you all how to enable the administrator account in Windows 10 and then to use it to replace the permissions on the driver dll files.

Do you have an HP computer or any other HP software or hardware than the printer @49Andy ?
Please let me know, so I may suggest any further steps to try.
Cheers,
Shlomi

Hi Shlomi, yes, my HP Envy 7640 printer-scanner-fax is connected (wirelessly) to two HP computers in fact. My wife's HP Windows 10 desktop connects to the printer with no problem. It's my HP laptop (also Windows 10) that I am having the problem with. I believe now that I have successfully uninstalled the old printer software but when I try to re-install the printer, I keep getting both "driver" error and "connection error" problems. Any further suggestions are completely welcome. thanks.
