hp laserjet pro 500 color mfp m570dn

I have picked up an hp laserjet pro 500 color mfp m570dn from a company that closed down.  It seems to run and seems to have toner but nothing I do causes it to print anything but a blank page.  Making a copy of a document still prints a blank page.  Test printing prints a blank page.  I do not think the toners are HP.  Is this the issue?  How would I tell so I do not invest in new toner cartridges for printer bricked by HP?

First step is to perform an engine test. This tests only the print engine and eliminates issues with formatter. The engine test prints a set of parallel lines in all colors on a page. Make sure you have standard letter paper in Tray 2 and on the back of the printer you will see a small hole. use a small non-conductive stick to press the button hidden inside the hole. Hold until you hear the print engine start up. If that page comes out blank, you have an issue with the print engine itself. If there are lines on it then you likely have a bad formatter.

I ran the test as you thoughtfully suggested and it DID print lines in all colors.

What is a formatter?  Is it repairable/replaceable?

Thanks

The formatter is the main control board. This is the board that the network or USB cable plugs into. Check HP Parts Store to see if that part is available.  It might  be useful to use HPpartssurfer to find a part number first. Replacement of board is pretty straight forward.
