Same problem - preceded by: Have uninstalled hp printer software and downloaded/ installed new driver. Printer is recognized, but when try to either print or scan, get an alert "failed to open a connection to the device (-21345)" Help!

I have the same problem! Clearly this must be an HP issue since we are all getting this message at the same time. Can someone from HP please advise??? It seems it is impossible to get ahold of customer service with an older product not under warranty, but it's not cool that none of us can use your product now.

I have been using a HP LaserJet 1012 on my iMAC (10.15.7) for many years... until this morning.
Now I get this same message:
"One or more components of the HP printing software are corrupted or missing.
I have downloaded and reinstalled driver. Restarted the entire system. Reset the printing system. Tried 3rd party drivers.
STILL the same error message!
Why did it stop today??? Nothing else changed.
Any other ideas I could try?

If you have a Mac, this works:
Reset the Mac printing system to solve a problem
If you can’t print to your printer and you’ve tried all other solutions, reset the printing system. This process deletes all printers from your list of printers, deletes information about all completed print jobs, and deletes all printer presets.
Important: First, try other troubleshooting techniques in Solve printing problems on Mac.
- On your Mac, choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Printers & Scanners.
- Press and hold the Control key as you click in the list at the left, then choose “Reset printing system” from the menu that appears.
After you reset the printing system, the list of printers in Printers & Scanners preferences is empty. - Re-add any printers.
