Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

My printer is an HP ENVY 7540 and I cannot connect my computer with the printer. Both have good connection to internet. Both are functioning well. I have a message that HP no longer supports this printer. Is there a way to connect printer to computer to use the printer?

Welcome to the HP Community.

The printer is likely out of warranty - this does mean that you cannot get hardware repair from HP.

That said,

All the software for the printer is still available.

The Full Feature Software / full driver printer software (at this writing) was last released in 2019 - not ancient by any means.

The HP Smart application is available from the Microsoft Store

The Firmware Firmware  (at this writing) was last released in June 2020 - it is likely up to date.  If not, you can certainly run the firmware update.

==============================================================================

Normally, assuming your printer is connected to your network (wireless on and solid blue),

Installing the full driver printer software will complete the connection and install the printer software.

If you are familiar with the printer software installation process, skip "Details and Examples"

>>> Scroll down to section Basic Instructions

Printer Software and Printer Application - Notes

Install either the HP Smart Application first OR install the Full Feature Software / full driver printer software first.

No wrong way - be sure to install both to have "full coverage" and access to your printer features.

The full driver printer software supports printing and scanning for Office documents, PDF, Photos (Images), and other print or scan software.  (Print Assistant and HP Scan)

HP Smart - Windows - provides scanning and printing for PDF and Photos / images with options in More Settings for Shortcuts and other settings.

===========================================================

>>> Check / Install the Full Feature Software / full driver printer software

The full driver provides the foundation on which other programs and printing software depend.

Preparation - Install Full Driver Printer Software

If you have not done so,

In addition to the HP Smart application,

Install the Full Feature Software / full driver printer software for the printer.

HP Smart and other print software / applications benefit from having the full driver installed.

Notes

When the full driver printer software is installed,

Find the printer software listed in Control Panel > icon view > Programs and Features.

The installation of the printer software adds two shortcut icons to the Desktop.

The Printer Assistant is named for the printer and provides access to Print , Scan , and Tools

HP Scan is named for itself and provides a direct call to the HP Scan software.

What if?

If the printer is connected to the network but you are having issues installing the software,

Change the connection type of the printer (as seen on the computer) to a TCP/IP connection.

Method - Create TCP IP port (InkJet Printer)

Find printer's IP /  IPv4 address

Print a Configuration Page

OR

Tap on the wireless icon on Printer Control / Display Panel

Control Panel > icon view > Devices and Printers

Right-Click on the printer > Left-Click Printer Properties

Select Tab Ports  > Add Port

Select Standard TCP/IP Port > New Port and follow the wizard.
Use / Enter IP address for the printer.

Example - How-to “Create TCP Port” Contributed by greenturtle

Video:  Create & Use TCP IP port
“Note that you can ALWAYS revert back to the original port that the HP software installed by selecting the HP port within the Ports tab (in Printer Properties)”
