Hi.  I have a Dell Precision 7530 with 2 - 3.1 USB ports and NO 2.0 ports since Dell no longer includes 2.0 ports.  HP only works with 3.1 not 2.0.  After several remote sessions with different HP techs and a Dell tech, each pointed to the other, no one got it working.  I work in a small metal building so wireless is a pain, that is why I need to be able to use USB.  They did get wireless going but could never get USB working.  It is a HP 2.0 printer cable.  From what I understand the 3.1 is backwards compatible with 2.0.  I am trying a 2.0 USB hub, powered, but it is still not recognizing the printer, says it is offline which, I thought, would indicate wireless.....the way I checked that was to totally turn off the wireless.  No one, not HP or Dell seems to "get" the problem and to fix it.  Any help or suggestions from you guys would be appreciated.  You can see I don't have a clue about what I am doing here.  I run online businesses and really need a stable printer.  Thanks!

@pd4106jr, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

To assist you better, what model printer are you using?

Refer to this document to know how to find the Product Name or Product Number.

Check for any pending windows updates on the computer. Restart it.

Yes, USB 3.1 port is backward compatible with USB 2.0

Connect the USB cable directly to the printer and the PC.

Go to Device Manager on the PC and check if the printer is detected under the USB ports or Imaging devices. If not detected, try with a different USB cable.

If the printer is detected, you will have to install the printer software from the HP Support/driver site.

For more info, refer to - USB Printer Setup

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
