I've found the HP officejet pro 9015e to be terrific in the small office setting. I recall, using an earlier version of this machine, that in order to scan photos, additional software was required but I find nothing on the HP website discussing this. The existing software, loaded when the printer was purchased, is not satisfactory for scanning photos (among other problems, it scans photos together on a single page, rather than as separate images). If someone could point me in the direction of the correct software, that would be great. Thanks.

Hi @bear1066,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
To scan photos more effectively with your HP OfficeJet Pro 9015e, you might consider the following options for software that can enhance the scanning process and provide better management of scanned images.
HP Smart App:
- The HP Smart app is typically installed with the printer software. It allows for basic scanning and can be used to adjust scan settings, including resolution and file type. If you haven’t tried it yet, it may be worth exploring.
- You can download it from the Microsoft Store for Windows or the Mac App Store for Mac.
HP Scan and Capture:
- For Windows users, HP Scan and Capture is a free application that offers enhanced scanning features. It allows you to scan documents and photos and gives you more control over settings.
- You can find it in the Microsoft Store.
Scanning with Document Feeder:
- If you are scanning multiple photos, ensure you are using the flatbed scanner instead of the document feeder. The document feeder might combine multiple images on a single page.
Update Drivers and Software:
- Make sure that your printer drivers and software are up-to-date. You can check for updates on the HP Support website.
Adjusting Scan Settings:
- When using the HP Smart app or any other software, check the scan settings. Set the scan type to "Photo" and adjust the resolution to at least 300 DPI for better quality. Look for an option to scan as individual images rather than as one page.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hi @bear1066,
Thank you for your response,
Since the HP Scan and Capture app seems unavailable on the Microsoft Store. Here are some options and methods you can use.
HP Smart App (Recommended)
- HP Smart is the most up-to-date software from HP for managing scanning and printing. You can download it from the Microsoft Store.
Steps:
- Open the Microsoft Store and search for "HP Smart."
- Download and install the app.
- Open HP Smart, sign in or skip, and add your printer if not already listed.
- Click the "Scan" tile and set the appropriate settings (like Photo for scanning images).
- Place your photo on the scanner bed, and click Scan.
Once scanned, you can save or edit the image.
Windows Scan App (Alternative)
If you prefer, you can use the built-in Windows Scan app:
- Open the Microsoft Store and search for "Windows Scan."
- Install and open the app.
- Select your HP OfficeJet Pro 9015e printer.
- Choose the scan settings (ensure the type is set to Photo or Flatbed if scanning from the scanner glass).
- Place your photo on the scanner bed and click Scan.
This app is simple but effective for basic scans.
HP Full Feature Software
- You can also download the full feature HP software package from HP's official site, which includes scanning utilities.
Steps:
- Go to the HP Support page.
- Search for "HP OfficeJet Pro 9015e."
- Download the full feature software under the Drivers & Downloads section.
- Install it, which includes the HP Scan software.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
