Hi @cramer48,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

It seems your HP OfficeJet 6962 All-in-One Printer crashes when you attempt to enter a numeral in the Wi-Fi password. This issue could be caused by a software glitch. Here are steps to resolve the problem:

1. Restart the Printer

  • Power off the printer by pressing the Power button and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for 30 seconds, plug it back in, and turn it on.
  • Try entering the Wi-Fi password again.

2. Update the Printer Firmware

  • Outdated firmware can sometimes cause input issues. To update the firmware:
    1. Connect the printer to your computer via USB or Ethernet (since the Wi-Fi isn’t connected).
    2. Download and install any available firmware updates from the HP Support website.
    3. After updating, try entering the Wi-Fi password again.

3. Use the HP Smart App for Setup

  • Instead of entering the Wi-Fi password directly on the printer, use the HP Smart App to complete the setup:
    1. Download the HP Smart app on your computer or mobile device.
    2. Follow the on-screen instructions in the app to connect the printer to your Wi-Fi network.
    3. You should be able to enter the Wi-Fi password via the app without encountering the crash.

4. Reset Network Settings on the Printer

  • Resetting the network settings might clear any internal errors causing the crash:
    1. On the printer's control panel, navigate to Setup > Network Setup > Restore Network Settings.
    2. After the reset, try entering the Wi-Fi password again or use the HP Smart App as suggested.

5. Factory Reset the Printer

  • As a last resort, if the issue persists, you can try a full factory reset:
    1. On the printer’s control panel, navigate to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Restore.
    2. Select Restore Factory Defaults and confirm.
    3. Reconfigure the printer and enter the Wi-Fi password after the reset.

If the issue continues after trying these steps, let's try perform a semi-full reset.

The reset instructions are specific to your printer and performing those steps on a different printer may brick the device.

I've sent you a private message with reset instructions, follow the reset instructions to perform a full reset and re-initialize the printer.

Hope this helps.

Please mark this post as Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.
