I am unable to install printer drivers for my Officejet 5745 on my Dell XPS 13 laptop running Windows 10 64 bit. I have tried the following:
- Downloaded latest driver installation package.
- Connecting through wireless, I can see my printer, but the installation always fails with "Unsuccessful network installation".
- Connecting through USB, but the driver installation software does not see the printer (it shows up as a fax only in my devices and printers if I do this. Note: my laptop only has USB 3.0 ports).
- Removed printer, uninstalled all software, restarted, and tried again but still does not work.
- Added printer through "Devices and Printers" in windows. It sees the printer, but status shows as "Driver is unavailable"
- After doing that, the printer shows up in windows Device Manager under "WSD Print Provider", tried searching for and updating driver through Device manager, but that fails as well.
- I have updated my computers drivers already.
I'm not sure what else to try. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi@HPToast,
I thank you for the reply.
Please follow the steps below to add printer over the wireless network.
First of all, make sure that the printer is connected to your wireless network and obtain the Printer IP address from the printer by going into Setup àNetwork setup àIPv4 address.
Then use the step below to configure the printer wireless from the IP address.
- Select “Start” and type “advanced print” in the search box.
- Choose “Advanced printer setup “.
- Select “The printer that I want isn’t listed “.
- Select “Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname”, then select “Next “.
- Select “TCP/IP Device” in the “Device type” list.
- Type the hostname or the IP address of the printer. Select “Next “.
- Windows should find the printer if the printer is on and configured correctly. You may have to specify more information. If prompted, Select the type of network adapter installed in the printer in the “Device Type” drop-down list. You can also click “Custom” to specify custom settings for the network printer. Select “Next “.
Note: Don’t check the box which says “Query the printer and automatically select the driver to use.
Windows will now walk you through installing the drivers for the printer. After that is complete, you should be able to print to the printer via direct IP address.
Kindly update the status.

Unable to install printer wired or wirelessly. Is that right?
I would like to help you.
I have few recommendations. I request you try them out and share the status of the printer connectivity.
- First of all, I request you check the Channel on the router which should be 11.
- Then the mode should be 802.11 b/g.
- Then restart the router once.
- Then follow the steps from the below link to remove the old driver of the printer and use the download link below to install the printer.
Printer uninstallation: http://hp.care/2c0ADuJ
Driver download: http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software13/printers/oj5740/Full_Webpack-40.2.1073-OJ5740_Full_Webpack....
Hope it helps.

Hi,
Thanks for for the response! I set my router to channel 11, removed all software and devices, and tried re-installing the driver software, but unfortunately the installation still fails. Also, while checking the channel on my router, I noticed that a firmware update was available, so I updated my router firmware and tried all the steps again, but was still unsuccessful.
Is is there anything else I can try?
Thanks!
