Print a Configuration Page to get the printer's IPv4 address
OR
Tap on the wireless icon on the Front panel of the Printer
Control Panel > icon view > Devices and Printers > Right-Click the printer >
Left-Click Printer Properties > Select Ports tab
Reminders
- Before installing the Full Feature Software software, disconnect the USB cable between the printer and the computer.
- After the software is installed, Restart the computer and log in.
- If you have not done so, consider installing the printer Firmware.
- READ all instructions (if provided) before installing firmware.
- After the firmware is installed, Restart the computer and log in.

True, USB does not ordinarily require that you adjust port tab -- and unless the printer was previously connected Wired or Wirelessly, the printer may not be listed.
Assuming other Troubleshooting has be completed, then it might be possible to add the printer using a Windows procedure to find and add basic printer function.
Although Windows drivers will not fully configure the printer, try "Add a Printer" to add the printer to the USB port.
General example:
Control Panel > icon view > Devices and Printers > Add a Printer
Click The printer that I want isn’t listed or select available printer
Click Add a Local or Network Printer…
Click Next
Choose a Printer Port window:
Use an existing port drop-down list, select LPT1: (Printer Port)
[ NOTE for USB: Look for USB001 or other USB00# > Select the highest Port listed ]
If needed...
Install the Printer window:
Left column: HP
Right column: Scroll, search, select (click) printer (HP Officejet Pro 8600 Class Driver)
And / or if Printer is not found in list:
Click Windows Updates
Wait several minutes for list to update
Left column: HP
Right column: Scroll, search, select printer (HP Officejet Pro 8600 Class Driver)
Choose a Printer Port window:
Use an existing port drop-down list, select LPT1: (Printer Port)
[ NOTE for USB: Look for USB001 or other USB00# > Select the highest Port listed ]
Click Yes to “…allow this app to make changes to your device” (UAC)
Optional: Type a printer Name or use the default
Next > Wait for printer software to install …
Next >
Click Share this printer so that others on your network can find and use it
Optional: Fill in information for printer location and a comment
Optional: Click Set as the default printer
