First off, hats off to you—working with computers since 1963? That’s legendary! From ticker tape to troubleshooting ink cartridges, you’ve seen it all. I love that you’re still hands-on and keeping your tech in shape.

Checking Your Printer Driver Version on Windows 7: Here’s how you can check if your HP Envy 6000 driver is up to date:

Open Device Manager

  • Press Windows + R, type devmgmt.msc, and hit Enter
  • Expand the Printers or Print queues section
  • Right-click your HP Envy 6000 and choose Properties

View Driver Details

  • Go to the Driver tab
  • You’ll see the Driver Version and Driver Date listed there

Compare with Latest Version

If it’s outdated, you can download the latest driver directly from HP’s site or use Device Manager to search automatically for updates.

If you’re happy with how the printer’s performing now, there’s no rush to update unless you’re seeing issues. But keeping drivers fresh can help avoid future hiccups.

And by the way, your nickname “Toasterwoman” is delightful. You’ve got style and tech savvy!

Cheers!

Hi @Toasterwoman

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for checking compatibility upfront—Windows 7 support has become increasingly limited, especially with newer printer models. However, there are still several HP printers that can work reliably with Windows 7, provided the correct drivers are available.

If you already have a specific model in mind, I can help verify its compatibility and locate the correct driver. Let me know what kind of printing you need—basic documents, photos, wireless printing—and I’ll narrow it down further.

If my response helped, please mark it as an Accepted Solution It helps others and spreads support. 💙 Also, tapping "Yes" on "Was this reply helpful?" makes a big difference! Thanks! 😊

Take care, and have an amazing day!

Hi Hawks

Thanks for your reply and it's awesome.

My printer is an HP Envoy Series 6000 All in One.  I actually got it running again by doing some troubleshooting.  I took our the cartridges (which were new) and made sure they were properly installed.  Then I did the deep cleaning and realignment. Test printed and it worked like a dream  It's never been super fast, but a decent speed for general home use.

You made me realize that I have no idea when I last updated my drivers.  Any way for me to check?

I'm 81 and I've been working on computers since 1963 when they ran on ticker tape.  I've reached the point where I just plain prefer to stick with a lot of the old stuff.  It happens to all of us.

Hi Hawks:  Sorry for the delay.  Life got in the way for a few days.  First of all, since it's been a long time since I installed this printer (as in years), I'd totally forgotten it's hooked up by USB, so doing all the steps you suggested gave my computer a case of the hiccups...big time.  Plus I'm running on 7 Ultimate Professional.  Has a few more bells and windows than other versions.  So, after getting my baby here settled down, I went to the tools provided and found just what I needed.  And right there were my drivers and the info telling me I was up to date.  And so much for that little adventure.  All is well.

If you ever came here you'd think you were in a computer warehouse/museum.  I still have an old laptop that runs on DOS with a brown screen (forget the brand), and weighs a ton, which is why I'm not digging out the ladder to find out all the info.  But I can tell you it has the memory of a gnat.  It served its purpose at the time.  I also have a number of other running computers that I love.  There are old programs that I run on them  One computer uses the best operating system Microsoft ever had...Windows 2000 Professional built on NT technology and they replaced it with ME (Someone should have been shot for that)  That system was rock solid.  I also have a virtual drive on here that runs on XP. My husband has a new laptop that runs on 11 and his PC on 10.  I won't go into the other machines we have, and tablets, etc., but I can tell you that it's all neat and orderly.  I do not have a smart phone.  I hate cell phones, but I do have the Lively, which is for old people and emergencies on the road.

I'm not into social media.  It useless.  At one time we communicated via newsgroups.  They were great.  It's also how I got the name Toasterwoman and met my husband.  He used the name Wharfrat.  He was and is a Dead Head.  I am the only one who calls him Wharf, which drives everyone crazy.  He loves it.  Occasionally some of us were able to meet.  I visited someone and my best friend and I went to visit him.  Now I'm culinarily impaired.  I won't cook. Can't cook.  Hate to cook.  We sayed overnight and I attempted to make toast in the morning.  I started a fire in the toaster.  He went to the newsgroup and told everyone what happened.  And so they started calling me Toasterwoman.  Wharf and I ended up swapping phone numbers and spent hours on the phone as we lived a continent apart.  Eventually we got to meet and realized we were very much in love.  The traveling across country and phone calls continued for 20 years as we were both working.  But finally pulled it together and on the 21st year, he moved here and we got married.  And still very much in love.

And there you have it.  I'll bet you're sorry you ever brought up the subject.

If you're still awake, I will say good night.  You've been wonderful and I were you boss, I'd give you a big raise.
