envy 4520 printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My printer is only 3 months old and i have yet been able to find any option to make the printer print in colour. I am using the wireless connection to print.

 

I had done the following but still unable:

 

 

  • First, unplug the USB cable from the printer if present.
  • Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Envy printer entries and uninstall them.
  • Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
  • Press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" (There is a space between .exe & /) and press enter.
  • Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
  • Again, go to the Run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Now click http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software13/COL61222/mp-147801-1/EN4520_Basicx64_1122.exe to install the software.
  • Connect the USB cable if prompted and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

 

I HAVE WASTED A LOT OF HP EXPENSIVE INK, PAPER AND TIME TRYING TO SORT OUT THIS PRINTING PROBLEM! RIDICULOUSLY NOT USER FRIENDLY!

Going through your post, I understand that are facing issues while printing in color / black only using your HP Envy printer. Appreciate all your efforts in reinstalling the printer drivers!

 

Can you make a color copy on your printer? Place a document face down on the scanner glass and press the color copy option on the printer control panel. Let me know if it makes a good copy or not.

 

If the copy comes out good, then check the print settings on your PC to print in color. 
 

  1. Go to Control Panel – Devices and Printers.
  2. Right-click on Envy 4520 and select “Printing Preferences”.
  3. Navigate to print quality / layout tab and make sure that the color printing option is selected.
  4. Also, click on the "Advanced" option and make sure the "Grayscale" printing is turned off.
  5. Save the settings and check for issue resolution.


Those steps should do the trick, let me know the outcome!

Thank you for your suggestions, Dvortex.  Making a copy from the glass of the printer works well and in color.  I followed the steps given but couldn't find grayscale or color.   

 

The Run time, Protection fault and exception code errors continue.  I believe there could be registry problems.

It looks like the printer hardware is fine with printing in color. The issue is with the print drivers on your PC or with the application that you are trying to print from. Try to print from different applications and check if that helps. 

 

If that does not help, then also try to install the printer using the Windows built-in drivers.

 

First, open Windows Device Installation Settings and confirm that your computer is set to automatically download driver software.
 

  • Search Windows for Change Device Installation, and then click the Change device installation settings Control Panel setting in the list of results.
  • Device Installation Settings window displays.
  • Select the Yes option, and then click Save Changes.

Making color copies is ok.

 

However, in the "control panel/device and printers"; there are no option for color or even greyscale; have looked everywhere including in "advance".

I understand that the issue still persists after following the steps provided in the previous interaction.

 

This issue could occur if the drivers are not installed properly.

 

Let's go through a few steps to uninstall and reinstall the drivers:

 

Step 1: Uninstall the Drivers:

 

Please follow the steps provided to uninstall the printer software in the link: Uninstalling the Printer Software (Windows)

 

Also, please follow the steps provided below to completely remove the printer software from printer properties.

Steps to remove printer driver files from Print Server Properties:

 

1. Open the Print Server Properties dialog window by doing any one of the following:

 

(a). Press WINDOWS-R on the keyboard to bring up the Run window, type in 'printui /s /t2' (without the quotes), and then press Enter or click OK.

(b) From the Start menu or the Start screen and open Devices and Printers. Select any printer and then click "Print server properties" at the top of the window. Click on the Drivers tab.

 

2. Select the printer driver you wish to uninstall.

3. Click the Remove button.

4. Select "Remove driver and driver package" and click OK.

 

Step 2: Download and install the Drivers from the link: Full Feature Software and Drivers

Finally I can now print in color! It is very unfortunate that HP is not able to make things easier!

I had wasted a lot of time, paper and expensive HP printer ink to be able to print in color; color ink level is still good but black ink is already completely depleted!

 

I had actually deleted and reinstalled everything pertaining to envy 4520 many many times but it did not work. This time I deleted everything with the letter HP including the drivers of another HP printer; then reinstalled drivers for envy 4520.

 

I am now happy that my envy 4520 is working properly but am very unhappy that I need to deplete an entire black ink cartridge before I can get the printer to be able to print in color!

I have followed all instructions listed in this post. I have uninstalled and reinstalled all drivers and software.  I have downloaded and installed the EN4520_FullWebPack_1122 file, and still i do not have grayscale only or color print options when printing files.  I have verified the printer can produce color copies and scans, but printing files only appears in black and white.
