My printer is unable to print because I keep seeing error messages that my HP account needs attention and the printer is not connected to the Internet. I did troubleshooting and could not resolve. I called HP who sent a link for me to try, which did not resolve the problem. I contacted my own tech support who tried many things. Other than the wireless light is solid and no longer flashing, my tech support could not resolve the problem. My printer is out-of-warranty and have not had a problem with it until this past week. I do not use HP Instant Ink or have any subscriptions. I purchase HP cartridges from my local office supplies store. How can I resolve the problem of "my account needs attention" so that I can print again? Thank you for your reply.

Hi @MW2000,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like a frustrating situation. Here’s a step-by-step approach to resolve the “account needs attention” error.
Check Printer Connection
- Ensure that your printer is properly connected to your network. Verify that the wireless signal is strong and stable.
Restart Devices
- Restart your printer, router, and computer. Sometimes a fresh start can resolve connectivity issues.
Update Firmware
- Make sure your printer’s firmware is up to date. You can usually check for updates through the printer’s control panel or HP’s support website.
Verify HP Account Settings
- Even if you don't use HP Instant Ink, your printer might still need to be linked to your HP account for some services. Log in to your HP account and ensure your printer is registered and there are no issues with your account.
Reconfigure Network Settings
- If the wireless light is solid, try reconnecting your printer to the Wi-Fi network:
- On the printer’s control panel, navigate to the wireless settings.
- Select the network and re-enter the password if needed.
HP Smart App
- Install or update the HP Smart app on your computer or mobile device. This app can help manage printer settings and might resolve network or account issues.
Reset Printer
- Perform a factory reset on your printer. This will restore default settings and might clear any temporary issues.
- Refer to the printer’s manual for instructions on how to perform a factory reset.
Check for Account Alerts
- Sometimes, the issue may be due to an alert or hold on your HP account. Check for any notifications or messages in your HP account that might explain the problem.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Alden4,
Thank you for your reply. I, and my tech support, tried all of the items that you mentioned before I posted about this issue. We did not see an immediate change. We could not find any reason why the "account needs attention." Much later, I turned the printer back on and it is printing again. Thanks again.
Enjoy a great day!
