I am trying to set up a used Deskjet 2755 printer that i recently purchased. The printer will print a test page no problem, but i cannot get it to link to my Wifi network using the Smart app no matter what I try. I am able to locate the printer, it picks up my network, I enter my password, but then every time I am met with the error "Cannot connect the printer to Wifi". I have reset the printer numerous times and I cannot figure out how to solve this.

Hi @LisaVon1

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand how frustrating it can be when your HP Deskjet 2755 connects to the network for a test page but won't link to your Wi-Fi. Let's go through a few troubleshooting steps to help you resolve the issue:

1. Check Wi-Fi Network Compatibility

Make sure your printer is trying to connect to the correct Wi-Fi network and that your router is set up correctly for the printer. The HP Deskjet 2755 works with 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi networks, and it won’t work with 5 GHz networks. If your router is using dual-band Wi-Fi, ensure the printer is connected to the 2.4 GHz band.

2. Restart Your Printer and Router

Sometimes, a simple restart of both your router and printer can help reset any potential communication issues:

  1. Turn off your printer and unplug it from the power source for about 30 seconds.
  2. Restart your router by unplugging it for about 30 seconds as well.
  3. After that, turn the printer back on and try reconnecting to Wi-Fi.

3. Use the HP Smart App or WPS Method to Set Up Wi-Fi

There are two main methods to connect your printer to Wi-Fi:

Using the HP Smart App:

  1. Open the HP Smart App on your phone or computer.
  2. Select Add Printer and choose your Deskjet 2755 from the list.
  3. The app should automatically detect your printer and guide you through connecting it to your Wi-Fi. Ensure that you enter the correct Wi-Fi password when prompted.

If the connection still fails, proceed to the next method.

Using WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) Method:

If your router supports WPS, this method bypasses the need to manually enter the Wi-Fi password.

  1. On the printer, press and hold the Wi-Fi button and the Cancel button simultaneously for about 3-5 seconds. The printer’s light should flash to indicate it's in WPS setup mode.
  2. On your router, press the WPS button (usually located on the back or side of the router).
  3. The printer and router should establish a connection automatically within a few minutes.

4. Ensure Correct Printer Firmware

Ensure that the printer's firmware is up-to-date, as outdated firmware can sometimes cause connectivity issues.

  • You can check for updates through the HP Smart App or by going to the HP support website and entering your printer model.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
