Product: HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus e-All-in-One Printer - N911g
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)
Im trying to enable Web Services for my Officejet Pro 8600 on the printers EWS. Because it reads that the eprint services are disabled by administrator, although I am the only owner of the printer and have not disabled anything. But when I try to get to Administrator settings, I get the following error:
"This site can’t provide a secure connection
____^ uses an unsupported protocol.
ERR_SSL_VERSION_OR_CIPHER_MISMATCH"
Can anyone kindly help me access the admin settings page for my printer so that I can change the permissions and use the eprint services or web services like Scan to Computer, with my printer?
Failed solutions:
1. factory resetting the printer and reinstall of HP SMART printer software, and wifi setup connection.
2. Changing browser security settings to allow this webpage IP address to redirect, allow pop ups, show insecure or protected content, de-selected 'always use secure connection https'"
3. In the EWS settings I was able to go to the link for "https redirection" and on that page, I changed the option from 'do not redirect to https' to 'redirect to https secure connection'. That did not solve the problem and changing this settings caused all of the EWS to not load properly for me and in order to view the home page and other sections normally, I had to revert that setting back to 'do not redirect to https'.
A dialog box always appears after I click on 'enable web services' that says, ' it will redirect to a secure connection https. You may encounter an error message, click accept or follow the prompt to add the certificate.' However, no such instructions about certificates ever appears. The only options are 'ok' and 'cancel' upon clicking ok to proceed, the error message listed above 'unsupported protocol' is what loads and I cannot access that admin or web services page.
Please help.

That is not a solution as I am not having issues enabling web services. The issue is that I am unable to access the settings page or any important pages in the EWS due to the unsupported protocol ssl certificate error page that appears each time it tells me it has to redirect to https....
This has been unaccessible for so long and I still have not been able to find a solution or reach anyone that knows what I'm talking about and I'm in despair at this point. Seems unreal that I can't get any help to resolve this problem. What do I need to do so I can get my printer setup correctly and use it?!

Hi @JdbHomePrinter,
I am sorry to hear that the above steps did not help much but i do appreciate your efforts in performing the troubleshooting steps.
Please follow the below steps to further troubleshoot as you are not able to access the EWS settings page.
Step 1: Bypass SSL Warnings
Modern browsers enforce strict SSL rules, and a self-signed certificate will often cause these warnings. Here's how you can proceed:
Using an Alternative Browser:
- Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge:
- When you see the SSL warning, click "Advanced" and then choose "Proceed (unsafe)".
- Firefox:
- Click "Advanced", then select "Accept the Risk and Continue".
Temporarily Disable SSL Enforcement (for older browsers):
- In some browsers, you can allow insecure connections by adjusting settings:
- In Chrome, type chrome://flags/#allow-insecure-localhost in the address bar and enable the setting.
- In Edge, you can use similar flags: edge://flags/#allow-insecure-localhost.
Step 2: Access EWS Without HTTPS
- Open a browser and enter the printer’s IP address as http://<printer IP> instead of https://.
- If your network enforces HTTPS, you might need to enable a manual exception (see Step 1).
Step 3: Update the Printer’s SSL Certificate
Generate a New Certificate:
- Access EWS (once bypassing the SSL warning).
- Navigate to Settings > Security > SSL/TLS Certificate or similar.
- Generate or upload a new self-signed certificate.
Disable HTTPS Redirect (Optional):
- Navigate to the Networking or Security settings in EWS.
- Disable the option to enforce HTTPS.
Step 4: Troubleshoot Network Configuration
Check the Printer’s IP:
- Ensure your printer has a valid IP address.
- If unsure, print a network configuration page from the printer.
Verify Firewall/Antivirus Settings:
- Ensure no firewall or antivirus software is blocking access to the EWS.
Router Configuration:
- Ensure your router allows communication over ports 80 (HTTP) and 443 (HTTPS).
Step 5: Reset Printer Network Settings (as a last resort)
Restore default network settings on your printer to eliminate misconfigurations:
- Use the printer’s control panel: Settings > Network > Restore Defaults.
Reconnect the printer to your network and try accessing EWS again.
Step 6: Advanced Options
If these steps do not resolve the issue, try the following:
Install HP Smart App or HP Printer Assistant:
- These tools often bypass the need for EWS to manage printer settings.
Contact HP Support:
- If you're still unable to access EWS, HP Support can guide you through additional solutions.
Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a great day ahead!
