HP OfficeJet 7740
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi all, hope someone can help as this is driving me insane.

I have moved my business from my house where the printer was happily connected to my wireless network by WiFi into an office that has a secure wireless network for my use.

I set my computer and phone up to the network without any issue but have tried to do the same with my HP OfficeJet 7740. I have reset the network settings to put it into setup mode and run the wireless setup wizard from the control panel. It finds my network but when I select the network it just says 'trying to connect to the network' and then times out. It doesn't ask for my network SSD and password.

I have managed to connect it by USB and the printer works but this thing is huge and isn't good sitting on my desk so I really need to connect it wirelessly.

Can anyone help?

Thanks.

Welcome to the HP Community.

Printer Specifications for HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-One Printer (G5J38A)

Log in to the router at your location and verify that it is supporting your printer connection.

Printer supports Wireless on 2.4GHz frequency and the named SSID network for that band.

Router logs might also tell you details about connection issue(s).

1 USB 2.0 with compatibility with USB 3.0 devices; 1 Host USB; 1 Ethernet; 1 Wireless 802.11b/g/n; 2 RJ-11 modem ports

Example - Dual Band Router network

If the printer is found on the network,

Note the IP address of the printer on that network,

Try using the Embedded Web Server (EWS) to check / configure the printer network setup.

Example -

Open your favorite browser > type / enter Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Tab Network > Wireless (802.11) > IPv4 Configuration

All sorted - thanks to those who helped.

Turns out there was a protocol setting on the router (Fast Roaming) that prevented the HP printer from communicating with it.
