HP 8130e goes offline pretty frequently - not the question -  I can deal with that but typing my password into that tiny little screen is a hassle.  Is it possible to reconnect to WiFi through the HP Smart app somehow, instead?

Hi @Kathy323,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Great question—and yes, you can reconnect your HP OfficeJet Pro 8130e to Wi-Fi using the HP Smart app, which is much easier than typing your password on the printer’s tiny screen.

Option 1: Use “Restore Wi-Fi Setup Mode”

  1. Reset Wi-Fi on the printer:
    • On the printer, press and hold the Wireless and Cancel buttons together for 5 seconds until the Power light blinks.
    • This puts the printer into Wi-Fi setup mode for 2 hours.
  2. Open the HP Smart app on your phone or computer.
  3. Tap “+” to add a new printer.
  4. The app should detect the printer in setup mode and guide you through connecting it to your Wi-Fi—no need to type the password on the printer.

Option 2: Use HP Smart’s “Advanced Settings”

If your printer is already added in HP Smart but is just offline:

  1. Open HP Smart.
  2. Tap your printer > Advanced Settings (this opens the Embedded Web Server).
  3. Go to Network > Wireless Setup Wizard.
  4. Enter your Wi-Fi credentials from your computer or phone.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thanks so much!  This is great except I got my model number wrong.🤪  Actualky it’s 8135e  not 8130e and when I went in as you described in option 2, under Network there was no Wireless Setup Wizard listed.  Should I be doing something different for my model?  Will look this up myself as well but didn’t want to not reply to you. Thanks again for replying.

Hi @Kathy323,

You're very welcome, and thank you for the kind follow-up! 😊 No worries at all about the model number mix-up — it happens more often than you'd think.

Since your correct model is the HP OfficeJet 8135e, you're right that some menu items can differ slightly from model to model, even within the same series.

If you're not seeing "Wireless Setup Wizard" under Network, try this instead:

Alternate Wireless Setup Method for the 8135e:

  1. From the printer's touchscreen:
    • Tap Home (if not already there).
    • Tap Wi-Fi / Wireless icon (often looks like a signal indicator).
    • Look for a "Settings" or "Wireless Settings" option.
    • There should be something like:
      • “Restore Network Settings” (optional, if you want to start fresh)
      • “Wi-Fi Setup” or “Wireless Setup”
      • OR “Wi-Fi Setup Wizard” — the name can vary.

  2. If still not found, try:
    • Tap the gear icon (Settings) from the Home screen.
    • Navigate to: Settings > Network Setup > Wireless Settings
    • Then select Wireless Setup Wizard from there, if it's available.

  3. Alternative: Use the HP Smart App:
    • If the touchscreen navigation is too confusing or missing options:
      • Open the HP Smart app on your phone or PC.
      • Select Set up a new printer or go to Printer Settings > Advanced Settings (EWS).
      • From there, you can access the Network/Wireless setup remotely.

Bonus Tip: If the printer was already previously connected to another Wi-Fi network, it's worth doing a “Restore Network Defaults” first. This clears old network info and ensures the Wireless Setup Wizard shows up.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
