HP Deskjet 4120e

Hi.  Printer turns on.  Power and WiFi LED's are solid. 'i' LED and bottom right LED below the LCD screen are flashing.  Doesn't seem to be connected to internet but LED is solid and it seems to try and setup via WiFi?, Instant ink cartridges don't seem to be sensed as active but prints status pages. HP Smart app saying these cartridges can only be used on a printer with active subscrition (which the HPInstantink page says it is!) Both cartridges are pretty full from memory.  Worked fine a week ago!. Have reset everything i can think of (router, printer, app, drivers, PC), used USB and WiFi setup but stalls at install ink cartridges close the ink door.  HP Smart app telling me to finish setup but won't go past cartridge install. Have deleted and reinstalled everything.  Is it the cartridges or printer do you think? Don't want to buy another printer if it's a cartridge issue.  Any help would be appreciated.

Hi @MattyT101,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems like you've already tried several troubleshooting steps, but let's explore some additional suggestions to resolve the issue:

Check Cartridge Contacts: Ensure that the cartridge contacts and printer carriage contacts are clean. Use a lint-free cloth to gently wipe the contacts. Make sure the cartridges are properly seated in their designated slots.

Reinstall Cartridges: Remove the ink cartridges and reinsert them properly. Ensure they are securely placed, and the ink door is closed tightly.

Restart the Printer: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for a few minutes, and then plug it back in. Turn the printer back on and check if the issue persists.

Firmware Update: Check if there's a firmware update available for your printer. Sometimes, updating the firmware can resolve compatibility issues and improve overall performance. Click Here

Check Instant Ink Subscription: Log in to your HP Instant Ink account online to verify the status of your subscription. Ensure that your printer is correctly registered and linked to your account.

Reset Network Settings: Reset the network settings on your printer and set up the Wi-Fi connection again. Ensure that you enter the correct Wi-Fi credentials during the setup process.

HP Smart App: Make sure you are using the latest version of the HP Smart app. Uninstall the app, restart your device, and then reinstall the app. During the installation, make sure to grant all necessary permissions.

Test with Another Cartridge: If possible, try using a spare set of cartridges (new or known to be working) to see if the issue persists. This can help determine whether the problem lies with the cartridges or the printer itself.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Done all of this thanks. The cartridges are being seen but the printer doesn't appear to connect to the network and is saying these are instantink only, which I am subscribed to and the correct printer is assigned to the account.  Printer connects to my network ok and the WiFi led is solid. Just doesn't seem to connect to the HP site to verify the cartridges! Have factory reset and tried reinstalling everything but the new printer installation hangs on close the cartridge door.
