@LadyJane123, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like there could be a communication issue between your HP Envy printer and your MacBook, even though both are connected to the internet. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:
Restart Devices
- Restart both the HP Envy printer and your MacBook. Sometimes a simple restart can resolve connection issues.
Re-add Printer
- Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners on your Mac.
- Select your HP Envy printer and click the minus (-) button to remove it.
- Then, click the plus (+) button and re-add the printer to see if it resolves the issue.
Check HP Smart
- Ensure the HP Smart app is up to date. If you haven't already, try reinstalling the app to ensure it's functioning properly.
Reset the Printing System
- Open System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
- Right-click on the printer list and select Reset printing system.
- This will remove all printers from the list and reset everything related to printing.
- Afterward, add your printer again.
Check for Network Connectivity
- Ensure that both the MacBook and printer are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
- You can check the printer's Wi-Fi connection status by printing a network configuration page from the printer's settings.
Check Ink Levels and Cartridges
- Double-check the ink cartridges using the HP Smart app or the printer’s control panel to ensure they are correctly recognized and have sufficient ink.
Update Printer Firmware
- Visit the HP support site and check if there's any available firmware update for your printer. Sometimes outdated firmware can cause connection issues.
Printer Driver Issue
- Ensure that the correct printer driver is installed. You can try downloading the latest driver from the HP website or let macOS automatically install it.
Print a Test Page from Printer
- If the printer is responding to manual commands, try printing a test page directly from the printer’s menu to ensure that the printer is functioning properly.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
