HP ENVY Photo 7855 All-in-One Printer

The printer prints jibberish, keeps getting the message, "Printer not activated". Error code 41. The printer is wireless, and both the printer and the desktop are on the same network. Not sure what the problem is. Help...please.

Hi @abklynkindaguy

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

If your HP ENVY Photo 7855 All-in-One Printer is printing gibberish and showing the message "Printer not activated" with error code 41, follow these steps to resolve the issue:

Verify Network Connection:

  • Ensure that your printer and desktop are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Check that there are no network issues or changes that might have disconnected your printer.

Check Printer Driver:

  • An incorrect or outdated printer driver can cause printing errors. Visit the HP Support website to download the latest driver specifically for your ENVY Photo 7855 model.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Sometimes, firmware updates can resolve unexpected behavior. Check for updates through the HP Smart App or the printer's control panel under “Settings” > “Firmware Update”.

Check Print Settings:

  • Verify your print settings on your computer. Sometimes, incorrect document settings can cause jibberish output.

Use HP’s Diagnose & Fix Tool

  • In the HP Smart app, click Printer Settings > Diagnose & Fix.
  • Let it run a scan—it will automatically fix common connection issues.
You can also access this tool on HP’s support page if needed.

Reconnect Printer:

  • Remove and then reinstall the printer on your computer:
    • Go to "Printers & Scanners" in Windows Settings.
    • Remove the HP ENVY Photo 7855.
    • Restart your computer and re-add the printer.

Clear Print Spooler:

  • Clear any stuck print jobs or issues in the print spooler:
    • Type Services in Windows search and open the service application.
    • Locate and stop the "Print Spooler" service.
    • Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS and delete all files.
    • Restart the "Print Spooler" service.

Check for Software Conflicts:

  • Verify if any security software or firewall might be interfering with the printing process. Temporarily disable and check if the issue resolves.

Following these steps should help in diagnosing and resolving the issue with your printer.
