iOS Sonoma 14.0
My HP LaserJet MFP M29w just stopped printing via Wifi. I have tried every suggestion on here and through internet searches.
It's about 3 years old and the only thing I can figure is it's something to do with my Comcast service. I don't really understand internet settings but know I am running 5.0, and what I saw was that some HP printers will only operate on (2.4 I think it was).
I've tried all the resets and unplugging. Pressing buttons. I see the printer in HP Smart, it runs through the process of trying to join, it's showing up on my Mac's list of printers. It just will not join my wifi.
I have an older modem, not one of the white towers I've seen in many videos where they just press a button and it joins easily. I've been trying to get Comcast to update my modem.
Any help or advice is appreciated. Thanks!

If you are trying to print using WiFi direct then both devices must be on the same band, 2.4ghz or 5ghz. This printer works only on the 2.4ghz band.
The m29 does not have a network wizard, it must be configured using HP Smart or using the WPS pushbutton method
Page 2 of users manual describes the WPS method. This might be the easiest way.
your router supports Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) mode, try to connect through this mode: 1. Press the WPS button on your router. 2. Within two minutes, press and hold the Wireless button on the printer control panel for at least three seconds, and then release the button. The Wireless LED and the Ready LED start blinking together. 3. Wait while the printer automatically establishes the network connection. It takes up to two minutes. When the network connection is established, the Wireless LED stops blinking |
You probably should reset the printer before doing the WPS connection
WiFI reset is below
Follow these steps to restore the network settings: 1. Remove the USB cable from the printer. 2. Press and hold the Wireless button on the printer control panel for 20 seconds. 3. When the Attention LED and the Power LED start blinking together, release the Wireless button. The printer restarts automatically. 4. When the Ready LED is on, start the WPS setup |

The modem may have that WPS as a virtual button. The below is an app in my Arris modem.
Use either the WPS push button or the PIN method of WPS to configure a printer
|
If so, get the network report from the printer to find its "pin" and enter that value in to the modem's app. Alternately click the "virtual button"
otherwise: This video might help to connect WiFi

Thanks for your suggestions! I finally got someone at Comcast to divide my wifi service so I could see it was on 2.4.I thought that would solve it but I'm still on the old network name. I saw someone mention a hard reboot of the printer so they could reconnect. I'm going to try that because nothing else is working to connect to the new wifi name. Thanks!
