Hi,

 

My HP Officejet Pro 7740 screen is blank. The wifi signal is showing blue and the home question mark and back symbols are lit up but the actual screen is blank. When I try to print it tells me the printer is offline but I cannot get into the screen (its blank) to connect to the wifi. (also weird the blue signal on the right hand side is lit up).

I have tried unplugging and turning back on

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you. 
A blank screen on the HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 while other lights (like Wi-Fi and buttons) are active usually points to a firmware glitch, power supply issue, or display failure. Let's try the following steps to resolve it:

Power Reset

This helps clear any temporary hardware glitches.

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the printer and the wall outlet.
  • Wait at least 60 seconds.
  • Press and hold the Power button for 15 seconds (while unplugged).
  • Plug the power cord directly into a wall outlet (avoid surge protectors).
  • Turn the printer back on.

Check if the screen lights up normally.

Check for Display Backlight

Shine a flashlight at an angle on the screen. If you can faintly see the display, the backlight may have failed, and the printer may need service.

Firmware Recovery (if screen remains blank)

If the printer is detected by your PC via USB, you can attempt a firmware recovery:

  • Download the latest firmware for HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 from the HP Software & Driver Downloads page.
  • Connect the printer via USB.
  • Run the firmware updater and follow on-screen instructions.

If the printer is not detected or the screen remains blank, this may indicate a hardware failure.

If none of the above steps work, the printer may need professional repair.
