Hi @Txmimi03

Welcome to the HP support community.

I understand you're experiencing an issue with your HP device, and I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. I'm here to help you today.

It seems like your HP DeskJet 4155e is entering sleep mode frequently, which causes the "Printer is in sleep mode" message when trying to print from your phone. This is a power-saving feature designed to conserve energy when the printer is idle. However, it can sometimes be frustrating if you need to print quickly.

Here’s how to address the issue:

1. Adjust Printer Sleep Settings

Unfortunately, some printers don’t allow you to fully disable sleep mode, but you can adjust the time it takes before the printer goes to sleep, or you can make it less sensitive.

To Change Sleep Mode Settings (if available):

  1. Turn on the printer.
  2. On the printer's control panel, navigate to the Setup menu (gear icon).
  3. Choose Printer Maintenance or Preferences.
  4. Look for an option such as Sleep Mode, Auto-Off, or Power-Saving Mode.
  5. If available, increase the time before the printer goes into sleep mode or turn off the sleep mode entirely.

If you don’t see any specific sleep options, then the printer’s default settings might not be adjustable.

2. Disable Auto-Off (if applicable)

Some HP printers (though not all models) allow you to disable the Auto-Off feature, which automatically powers down the printer after a period of inactivity.

To disable it:

  1. On the printer control panel, go to Settings or Preferences.
  2. Look for an option called Auto-Off or Energy Settings.
  3. If available, turn Auto-Off off to prevent the printer from completely shutting down after idle periods.

3. Use HP Smart App for Faster Wake Up

The HP Smart app can help manage print jobs more effectively. The app can trigger the printer to wake up from sleep mode more quickly, which might reduce the waiting time when trying to print from your phone.

To use the HP Smart app:

  1. Download and open the HP Smart app on your smartphone.
  2. Make sure your printer is added to the app.
  3. Try printing directly from the app instead of using AirPrint or another print method. This may help you avoid sleep mode issues.

4. Print Regularly to Prevent Sleep Mode

If the printer doesn’t have any configurable sleep settings, another simple way to prevent it from going into sleep mode too often is to print something periodically. Even a small document or a test page can keep it awake.

5. Firmware Update

Check if there’s a firmware update available for your printer, as sometimes manufacturers release updates that can modify how power-saving features like sleep mode work.

  • You can check for firmware updates through the HP Smart app or on the HP Support website.
