HP-Smart has stopped working entirely.

No matter what feature I want to access (Scan, Print, Setup, ...) I get referred to the SignIn/CreateAccount page.

Whatever I do there, I get a sequence of "Launching HP account ..." -> "This may take 20 seconds..." -> "Transferring information ..." and back to the app's home screen, where I click the same feature again, where the same procedure starts over again and again and again and ...

Also trying to create a new account doesn't do anything different whatsoever!!!

@ScruffR

If HP Smart worked previously and has recently "stopped working" for mysterious reasons.

Add the following to your checkpoints:

Could be that you are not running / getting the newest version.

In my experience, the 132.2.262.0 version did seem a bit unstable.

At this writing - HP Smart - Windows - Version:  132.3.262.0

True - Creating a new / different account does not change the version of the application.

What to do?

Places to check / try to fix...

HP Smart >> Remove / Install Steps

Settings > Apps > Apps and Features

Scroll down, find, Click on HP Smart > Uninstall

Restart the computer and log in.

A new copy of the application can be downloaded / installed from the Microsoft Store (formally Windows Store).

What if?

If the existing version of HP Smart is still installed for some reason,

Normally, you would get any updates from the Microsoft Store

Most likely the setting to update "Automatically" is already set.

Check / Adjust whether applications from the Microsoft Store update automatically

Windows key > Open the Tile for Microsoft Store

If necessary, sign into the store

Click on “See more”  (three horizontal dots  )

Select Settings

If needed, settings can be adjusted.

==================================================================

Check / Update applications in / from the Microsoft Store

Windows key > Open the Tile for Microsoft Store

If necessary, sign into the store

Click on “See more”  (three horizontal dots  )

Options on Right side of menu > Box:

Downloads and Updates

Select Downloads and Updates

Click Get Updates

Check the list for a recent change in the HP Smart version (third column)

If HP Smart has been recently updated,

If you have not done so since the date / time updated,

Restart the computer and log in

If HP Smart has not recently updated – but is installed, find the application in

My Library > Category All owned

Open and Read >>> HP printer setup (HP Smart app)

NOTES:

  • Disconnect from Virtual Private Network (VPN) connection before downloading.
  • Turn on Wi-Fi on your computer or mobile device and connect to your network. If the computer is connected to the network with an Ethernet cable, temporarily disconnect the cable and use the Wi-Fi connection during the setup.

  • HP Smart requires that you sign into the application using your HP Account credentials.

  • HP Smart benefits (likes) having the Full Feature Software / full driver printer software installed.  For example, full driver provides access to Shortcuts and Printing Preferences.

  • Document includes the HP Smart application download links for Windows and Mobile devices, plus an FAQ section to assist with questions / issues.
    •  FAQ examples:
      • What are the requirements to use the HP Smart app?
      • Which printers are compatible with the HP Smart app?
      • Why do I need to sign in or create an account to use the HP Smart app features?
      • Which languages does the HP Smart app support?
    • Older versions of the HP Smart app no longer support the required login feature.

Thanks for the reply, but unfortunately that didn't solve the issue for me.

ScruffR,

Did you ever get this figured out?  Mine for a week now has been asking me to log in and won't allow me to uninstall/reinstall the printer or the HP Smart App. It hangs on either the log in screen ("Loading Application") or it says that my printer, that I just reinstalled for the 12th time in 72 hours) needs to finish installing.  It had begun with a "finish installing" about 4 months ago and I have ignored it.  All of my updates are supposed to be automatic and it says that there are no new updates available and yet Friday (Today is Monday) it stopped working altogether on my Inkjet. My laserjet still worked perfectly, but it is also only installed on the HPSmart app, but does not really utilize any features on it. I use the HPSmart App for my 9020 in order to scan because it has NEVER allowed me to "scan to computer" from the printer screen. Only through the app. I am about ready to throw this printer out the window.  Nothing but trouble from Day 1.
