Hi @Oldfart8149,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be glad to help you!
I can imagine how frustrating it must be to change your Wi-Fi source and then have trouble getting your printer to reconnect, especially when you just want everything to work smoothly again. Let’s work through some questions and troubleshooting steps to help you get your HP Deskjet 2540 connected to the new Wi-Fi and back to printing from your iPad.
- Have you confirmed that your new Wi-Fi network is operating on the same frequency (2.4 GHz) as your printer? Many printers only work on 2.4 GHz, and some routers broadcast both 2.4 and 5 GHz signals.
- When trying to reconnect the printer, have you ensured that the new Wi-Fi password was entered correctly? Even one mistyped character can cause connection issues.
- Is the printer in Wi-Fi setup mode (often indicated by a blinking blue light)? If it’s not, it may need to be reset to search for new networks.
Let's try these steps
On your printer, press and hold the Wireless and Cancel buttons at the same time for about 5 seconds until the wireless light starts blinking.
This will reset the printer’s network settings and put it into Wi-Fi setup mode so it can detect your new network.
Download the HP Smart app on your iPad, if you haven’t already. Use the app to reconnect the printer to your new Wi-Fi by following the on-screen prompts.
The HP Smart app makes it easier to connect devices by walking you through the process.
Make sure your iPad is connected to the same Wi-Fi network you’re trying to connect the printer to. Sometimes, devices on different networks can't communicate.
Both devices need to be on the same network for AirPrint to work.
If you haven’t already, restart your Wi-Fi router. Unplug it for 10 seconds, plug it back in, and let it reboot.
This can refresh the connection and resolve any temporary network issues that might be affecting the printer.
If your router supports WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup), press the WPS button on your router, then press and hold the Wireless button on the printer for about 5 seconds until the light blinks.
WPS allows the printer to connect directly to the network without needing to enter a password.
I hope these steps help, and you can get your printer back online soon!
