Hi ,
i have bought a brand new MFP 479 and I am unable to connect to my wifi network . It will not allow me to put a password in and my network is functioning and will actually let me connect other HP printers . I can see the network but it does not allow me to put a password in .
Very frustrated

Hello CK125;
Unfortunately your description does not specify why you cannot put a password on the printer when you get the prompt to enter it. Because of that, we will be providing general recommendations:
- Make sure your wifi frequency (band) is either 2.4 or 5ghz. Those are the frequencies this printer can accept.
- Make sure your wifi network has an actual password and also the network itself has some kind of encryption, like AES or WPA, as unencrypted SSIDs will not be accepted by this printer.
- Try another network: you can create a wifi hotspot with your smartphone (with a password) and try to connect your printer to it. If it works that is the confirmation the printer is not the issue.
- Temporarily connect your printer via ethernet cable to the router: once your printer is connected over network cable, it will have an IP address and will be reachable over the network. You can retrieve the printer's IP from the touchscreen, then open a browser on your computer, log into the printer's Embedded Web Server, go to Network> Wireless> run the Wireless Setup Wizard from there. If the printer connects to your regular wifi after typing its password, once you unplug the ethernet cable your printer should connect to your wifi.

Hi,
this is way to complicated for what i should be a simple situation
My router has a password attached to it and i have no issue in connecting other devices to it including other HP printers .
When i see the network on the printer it simply does not ask me for a password and shows network is not encrypted . This is not the case
Please advise as this is frustrating and I can see on the forum others have the same issue
Cheers

Keep in mind we are providing general recommendations, because as you described, that should be a very straightforward process for wifi connection, so we have to think for out of the box solutions for your out of the ordinary issue.
Also if your printer is under warranty, you can call HP tech support for further assistance.
